RONALD EUGENE DAVIS arrested after twenty-one emaciated dogs were rescued from deplorable living conditions

On the evening of February 16, 2025, deputies with the Rutherford County Sheriff's Office, Road Patrol Division acting on a tip regarding neglected dogs in the area of Tisdale Street in Ellenboro, conducted extra patrols.


The sheriff’s office said in a press release that deputies did in fact find multiple dogs at a local residence who appeared “extremely malnourished” and launched an investigation.


The following morning, with the assistance of Animal Control Services and Foothills Health District, deputies went to the residence in question and began removing the dogs.


According to the press release, once inside the residence, officials immediately noticed that it was “in complete disarray, floors were covered with animal feces, and conditions that can only be described as deplorable.”


The sheriff’s office said the entire rescue operation of twenty-one dogs took several hours. As the dogs were being brought out of the residence, deputies saw that the Voiceless Victims had fur matted with dried feces, they were suffering from noticeable hair loss, and their bones were showing through the skin.


In connection with this case, deputies arrested 54-year-old RONALD EUGENE DAVIS (pictured) and charged him with sixteen counts of animal cruelty, eight counts of dog vaccination violation, and five counts of cruelty to animals.


Animal Control tells me that no deceased animals were found on the property and none of the rescued dogs were euthanized. To my question about the furvictims’ well-being, the answer was: “Most are still trying to decompress. Have made a little progress with interacting with the adults. As of now we expect them to make a full recovery.”

DARLENE HUTCHINSON and ARTHUR MELVIN DOLIVER arrested – Cats and dogs found in deplorable conditions

The Highlands County Sheriff's Office announced the arrest of 66-year-old DARLENE HUTCHINSON and her son, 36-year-old ARTHUR MELVIN DOLIVER (both pictured).


According to the office’s press release, what started out as an eviction, turned instead into a rescue operation for over fifty animals from the duo’s home.


On the afternoon of November 19, 2024, deputies went to 17215 Broadland Lane in the Kissimmee River Estates neighborhood to initiate an eviction process. However, once inside the single-wide mobile home, deputies discovered eight cats and forty-six dogs “living in what can only be described as deplorable conditions”, stated the release.


The sheriff's office said the entire floor of the home was covered in animal feces and garbage and infested with roaches and rats. The walls were covered with cobwebs.


Deputies found many crates, containing cats and dogs, that were covered with several inches of feces and a cloth covering the crates prevented any free air flow.


Inside the crates there were bowls that were filled with urine instead of water.


According to the sheriff's office, many of the dogs had visible flea infestations, many others had noticeable hair loss, and dogs with long fur were matted with dried feces.


Deputies said that many animals were not caged and learned that the ones who were trapped and locked in the crates had never been let out.


It took Highlands County Sheriff’s Office Animal Services Unit and deputies several hours to get all of the animals out of the home. All of the Voiceless Victims were taken to the Humane Society of Highlands County, FL as the Animal Services facility is undergoing a construction project.


Deputies said the furvictims were scheduled to be seen by vets the following day.


The sheriff’s office tells me that no animals were found deceased and none of the rescued animals were euthanized.


HUTCHINSON and DOLIVER were arrested and charged with fifty-four counts of animal cruelty.

Deputies were told that mother and son had been living in the home for six years and started out with one cat and two dogs.


I asked the sheriff’s office why the duo had so many animals and I was told: “She said she took them in with the goal of finding them new homes, but that obviously was not true.”


Highlands County Sheriff Paul Blackman said in a statement: “Treating even one animal like this is inexcusable, but having more than 50 of them living in this kind of condition is just mind-boggling. There is no reason anyone can give that would justify animals being kept in this kind of situation.”

LETICIA N. SANDERS and CINDY ANN WELLS arrested – More than ninety dogs and a cat rescued

I emailed Ms. Faith Wright, the Palm Valley Animal Society director, and asked her whether any animals were found deceased on the property.

Ms. Wright tells me that no animals were found dead and that none of the rescued animals were euthanized. Ms. Wright also said: “We have been able to send all but 25 so far to foster and rescues.”

The McAllen Police Department announced the arrest of 54-years-old LETICIA N. SANDERS and 55-years-old CINDY ANN WELLS (both pictured), in connection with a hoarding case.

 

On the morning of Saturday, March 30, 2024, police received a report from an Uber Eats driver about an odor in the 3400 block of Ozark Avenue.  

 

Responding officers requested assistance at the scene from the McAllen Fire Department and ambulance services.

 

Once inside the property, officials found a large number of dogs and one cat.

 

All of the Voiceless Victims were taken to the Palm Valley Animal Society (PVAS). In a Facebook post, the shelter wrote that ninety-three (93) dogs had been rescued from an hoarding case and placed in their care “under dire circumstances.”

 

Valley Central reports that Faith Wright, the Palm Valley Animal Society director of operations, said: “They are very, very matted, some can barely walk, due to their feet being tied together by their hair. It’s been a pretty traumatic situation.”

 

In a subsequent post, PVAS advised that some of the dogs were thankfully placed in foster homes. The other dogs will be transported to rescue groups in San Antonio and New Braunfels.

SANDERS and WELLS were arraigned on Monday, April 1, 2024, on ninety-four (94) counts of animal cruelty and received a $188,000 bond each.

At time of writing, records show they are being held in the Hidalgo County Jail.
