The Escambia County Sheriff’s Office arrested 58-year-old PAMELA MICHELLE MILLER (pictured). MILLER is accused of denying treatment and not providing proper care for her dog causing the excessive and repeated infliction of unnecessary pain and suffering to her dog.

According to the arrest report, on April 5, 2025, MILLER took her dog, a Yorkshire Terrier named Prissy, to Davis Animal Hospital for a “fur mat removal and nail trim” and told staff that Prissy was lethargic and unresponsive.

The veterinarian who examined Prissy reported that all her four limbs were “severely matted in a bird nest fashion which was tight to the skin and had a horrendous odor.” Moreover, Prissy’s left front paw was actively bleeding.

The vet “strongly encouraged humane euthanasia as an option” but according to the report, MILLER declined, told the vet “You are not going to kill her”, and “demanded a treatment plan.”

The vet then chose to debride Prissy’s leg and trim her nails and MILLER agreed. Given the pain Prissy was in, staff had to sedate Prissy during the process.

After removing the matted fur from Prissy’s limbs, the vet told MILLER that Prissy’s leg was infected and necrotic. The vet advised MILLER of Prissy’s quality of life due to her condition and suggested humane euthanasia. According to the report, when the vet asked MILLER to hurry with the procedure, she became agitated. The report further stated that staff even offered to amputate Prissy’s leg at no cost but MILLER declined the offer.

At that point staff bandaged Prissy's leg, told MILLER to return for bandage changes, scheduled a follow-up appointment, and asked MILLER to sign an Against Medical Advice (AMA) form.

The AMA form, which MILLER signed, stated:

I the undersigned, do fully understand that | am taking my pet, Prissy, out of the care of Davis Animal Hospital against the advice of medical staff. Because of my decision to remove my pet from the doctor's care, | have been informed that there may be further complications in their condition. These complications may improve, but are not limited to, further deterioration of their condition, suffering, and/or death."

I, the undersigned, do fully understand that I have elected services for my pet, Prissy, do not represent the optimal care as advised by Davis Animal Hospital. The ramifications of such a decision on my part may include further deterioration of their condition and/or health.”

MILLER was scheduled to return to Davis Animal Hospital on April 8, 2025, but never did.

Two days later, the hospital contacted Animal Welfare Sgt. Merideth Roberson and alerted her to suspected cruelty.

An Animal Welfare Officer then responded to MILLER’s home on West Ensley Street in Ensley.

At MILLER’s home, the Officer found Prissy lying down and appearing unresponsive. When MILLER picked her up, the sweet soul howled loudly and could not hold her head up. Prissy’s bandage was dirty with blood seeping through and MILLER admitted she did not go back to the hospital to change Prissy’s bandages.

Due to concerns for Prissy’s safety and welfare, the furvictim was removed from MILLER’s home and was taken to the Escambia County shelter.

On April 12, 2025, a vet examined Prissy and reported that she had a poor body condition score and could not stand on her own.

Additionally, the vet noted injuries including scabs on all four limbs and head, a healed cut on an ear, and missing digits on a back paw (appearing to be an old, healed injury).

Sadly, Prissy was euthanized.

MILLER was arrested on May 2, 2025, and booked into the Escambia County Jail on one felony count of aggravated animal cruelty. Bond was set at $100,000 and at the time of writing, records show she is still in custody. Court records show MILLER is set to appear at Escambia County Circuit Court on May 16, 2025, at 8:30 a.m. before Judge Boles.

The Lake City Police Department arrested 73-year-old RONALD WAYNE NIMS (pictured) after many cats, chickens, and dogs were removed from his home.

The Lake City Humane Society received information that there were up to fourteen (14) malnourished animals living at the home. Members with the agency responded to NIMS’ home on 705 SE Putnam Street and gave him a 72-hour notice to comply with state statutes on animal care.

On September 19, 2024, Ms. Jackson with the Lake City Humane Society went to NIMS’s home to check whether he had complied and she was denied entry. She then called the Lake City Police Department for assistance.

A responding officer reported seeing “multiple dogs in dire need of medical attention.” According to the officer, the dogs “were missing fur and covered in their own feces.”

Eventually, NIMS allowed police and Animal Control Officers to enter his home. According to the report obtained by Voice For Us, NIMS said he did not want people in the home as he is an “animal hoarder.”

Officials observed that there were no lights in the house. They saw multiple cages in the first room of the house that had been stacked on each other without water of food dishes. The floor was completely covered with hard feces and garbage preventing the door in the room from being opened.

Throughout the home there were no lights or running water.

As officers were about to enter another room, NIMS was reluctant at first. Once inside the room, officers discovered two dogs in a cage under sheets. In the cage there was no food or water and the bottom was “padded with feces”, stated the report. Police said there was no dog food in the house.

According to the report, one of the two dogs was “aggressive and resisted being touched.”

Upon clearing the house, officials discovered eleven dogs, four cats, and two chickens.

All of the dogs were covered in fleas, many of them were shaking in fear, appeared to be thin due to malnutrition, and some of them were missing fur.

One dog bit an Animal Control Officer as the officer tried to get the furvictim outside so the poor soul was euthanized. The report stated: “This dog was found to have extensive injury for not being properly cared for and getting the medical attention needed. Animal Control determined due to the extensive need of care that they could not provide and the fact that the dog bit an employee, the dog was euthanized.”

Two other chickens were found sitting on the porch outside with no food or water.

The Lake City Humane Society removed all of the Voiceless Victims.

NIMS was placed under arrest and booked into the Columbia County Detention Center.

The Lake City Police Department filed the following thirty felony counts of animal cruelty against him:  five (5) counts of Torture Inflict Pain Serious Injury or Death, twelve (12) counts of Torment Deprive Mutilate, and thirteen (13) counts of Confine Animal without Sufficient food/water.

At the time of writing, arrest records show that NIMS is still in custody and a court date is not listed.

I took the liberty of naming the dog who was euthanized Pumpkin for the tribute image. Should his/her given name be made public, I will rectify it accordingly.

- Nebraska, USA -

~ Update: August 29, 2024

I heard back from the Nebraska Humane Society and learned that the mama dog’s name was Poptart. The tribute image has been changed accordingly.

The puppies’ names are:

(These are their shelter names. They may have new names in their homes)

Cherry

Cinnamon

Kilo

Maple

Oreo

Pumpkin Pie

Snickerdoodle

Strawberry

Sugar Cookie

I also learned the following: “The puppies came in at roughly four weeks and were fostered until they were ready for adoption. All of them, including mom, found homes. So far, none of the puppies have been returned and all appear to be in happy, healthy homes. Sadly, mom was returned with some aggressive tendencies. We worked with her, as did her adopter, but ultimately it was determined that humane euthanasia was a better option than spending her life in a shelter.”

~ Original story:

The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office arrested 30-year-old PRESTON WOODALL (pictured), in connection with the vile abandonment of nine helpless puppies and their mom.

The incident dates back to February 14, 2024, when two residents, whom WOWT identified as Anastasia Alexander and Dona Smith, found the mama dog and her babies next to a dumpster of their apartment complex near 108th and Fort Street in Omaha. The kindhearted ladies then put the 4-week-old puppies in a box.

Ms. Alexander told WOWT: “They smelled terrible, reeked of urine, and some were covered in feces. Even the mama, you could tell, was starving, because her milk sack was flat.”

According to our Good Samaritans, a male wearing a ski mask, now identified as WOODALL, drove his car to the area, backed up the vehicle up to the dumpster, and abandoned the furfamily.

The Nebraska Humane Society took the mama dog and her babies.

The puppies were eventually adopted out, but their mom was sadly euthanized. While in a foster home, the mom reportedly displayed behavioral issues that made her unadoptable.

The Nebraska Humane Society was able to find a security camera photo of the scum to circulate among law enforcement agencies. An investigation then led to the identification of WOODALL and an arrest warrant was issued on eleven counts of animal cruelty and one count of dog unrestrained

Douglas County Sheriff’s Deputy Cindy Dmyterko told WOWT while showing security footage: “He has a mask on, so he does not want his identity shown. However, we have the vehicle and enough witness statements to say this was the gentleman who did this.”

WOODALL was taken into custody on August 26, 2024, on National Dog Day, and the circumstance that led to his arrest was very unusual.

On August 12, 2024, WOODALL had applied for a firearm purchase permit at the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office. A record check showed that WOODALL had two warrants for his arrest for the animal cruelty charges as well as not showing up to court for those charges

On August 26, 2024, WOODALL showed up at the sheriff’s office to pick his permit and found himself wearing a nice pair of handcuffs! He was then taken to Douglas County Corrections.

Douglas County Sheriff Aaron Hanson explained to WOWT that “…this case shows that anyone who comes into the office and applies for a gun permit can expect the staff and deputies to run a background check to see if there are any outstanding warrants.”

On August 27, 2024, WOODALL appeared in court and pleaded no contest to one misdemeanor count of animal cruelty and was sentenced to FIVE DAYS behind bars.

According to WOWT, “As part of the plea agreement, nine counts of the same charge, plus one similar charge, were dropped.”

On a separate note, as reported by WOWT, “This is the second jail stint in less than a year for Woodall. In October 2023, he pleaded guilty to driving with a suspended license and spent five days behind bars for that incident, too. In that case, charges for refusing to sign a traffic citation and a lack of brake lights were dropped.”

As I have been regularly posting quotes on animal cruelty on Voice For Us’ social platforms, I came across this one, “To examine whether something is humane first determine whether you would want it done to you”, by Andrea Kladar. So, I took the liberty of naming the  mother dog Andrea for the tribute image.

Should her given name be made public, I will rectify it accordingly.
