The Putnam County SPCA announced the arrest of 42-year-old SHANNON MCMAHON.

In a Facebook post the organization said that on the evening of June 23, 2024, the Town of Kent Police Department contacted them and asked them to respond to a residence on Chief Nimham Drive regarding a dog who was severely emaciated.

Police had been dispatched to that address in reference to a dispute between landlord and tenant and while on the scene, officers observed an 8-year-old female Catahoula Leopard mix, “in a state of severe emaciation.”

After the SPCA was alerted, detectives and the Town of Kent Dog Control also responded to the scene.

SPCA detectives removed the dog, named Abby, and Kent Dog Control Officer Madsen took her to Guardian Veterinary Specialists in Brewster to be examined.

Veterinarians found Abby to weigh only 21 pounds with a body condition score of 1/9. If Abby had been healthy, she would have weighed around 40 to 50 pounds with a body condition score of 5/9.

Tests run on the furvictim showed she starved as result of lack of proper feeding.

Putnam County SPCA Detectives arrested Abby’s guardian, MCMAHON, for misdemeanor animal cruelty and processed her at the Town of Kent Police Department.

After being arraigned at Kent Town Court she was released without bail.

MCMAHON’s next court date was scheduled for July 11, 2024.

If convicted, MCMAHON faces a maximum year’s incarceration in a county jail in addition to fines of up to $1,000. A joke!

The Lilburn Police Department arrested 55-year-old HAI SON NGUYEN (pictured via WSB-TV).

NGUYEN was arrested on June 26, 2024, for the death of a Border Collie who was left tied up outside for several days without food, water, or shelter.

According to the arrest reports obtained by Voice For Us, the furvictim was found on a backyard patio “tethered to a porch railing with no food, water or shelter from the heat.”

NGUYEN told police that the dog was not his and that the guardian is a former tenant who left leaving the dog behind.

In an interview with Channel 2, NGUYEN said that the former tenant was renting the in-law suite attached to the home and then left without paying the rent he owed.

NGUYEN claimed he was not aware that the dog had been abandoned. Police said the poor soul was exposed to extremely high temperatures for nearly a week before dying.

NGUYEN said he was bringing food to the dog and found him/her lifeless on Saturday, June 22. He called Animal Control the next day.

Police did not disclose the identity of the former tenant and at the time of writing, he has yet to turn himself in. He is facing misdemeanor animal cruelty charges.

Lilburn Police Captain Scott Bennett tells me that “…the arrest warrant is in the hands of the Gwinnett Co. Sheriffs Fugitive Unit. They’ll let us know when they pick him up.”

NGUYEN was booked into the Gwinnett County Jail on felony animal cruelty charges. He was released after posting bond and said he hopes his charges are dropped once the case goes to court.

Captain Bennett rightfully told Channel 2: “Both the landlord and the tenant bear some responsibility for the dog’s welfare.” He added: “The dog was left outside for five to six days and the temperatures have been extremely high. Just show common decency.”

The Davidson County Sheriff’s Office announced the arrest of MELVIN “SONNY” BERRY (pictured).

The arrest is the result of an investigation into an animal cruelty and domestic elderly abuse and neglect case in the Denton area.

In a press release the sheriff’s office said that during the investigation, “it was determined through observations, interviews, and medical evaluations that an elderly female was living inside a residence with over 40 Wolf-Hybrid dogs.”

According to the press release, the woman sustained injuries which then prompted a welfare check at her trailer home.

Deputies found the inside and the outside conditions of the home to be uninhabitable for people and dogs.

The sheriff’s office said the dogs inside the home “were not social and were later determined to be feral.”

Following consultations with medical and veterinary experts the dogs had to be euthanized to protect public safety as well as the safety of surrounding animals in the area due to the diseases they were exposed to and carrying.

A Superior Court judge signed an order directing the furvictims to be euthanized.

Another case where Innocent Souls paid the price for mankind’s ignorance, stupidity, and cruelty!

BERRY was arrested on June 24, 2024, and charged with twenty (20) misdemeanor counts of animal cruelty, one misdemeanor count of local ordinance, and one felony count of domestic elderly abuse/neglect with serious injuries.

Look at that! Abuse of innocent dogs which resulted in them being euthanized is a misdemeanor!

BERRY is slated to appear in Lexington District Court on July 23, 2024.

Anyone with further information related to this case is asked to contact Deputy C. Soles at the Davidson County Sheriff’s Office Animal Control Division at (336) - 242 - 2105. Thank you!
