~ Update: May 21, 2024

I was told by the Joliet Police Department that “…the dog is a 10-year-old brindle mini bull terrier named “Nibbles”.  He received emergency veterinary care that day of the incident and continues to receive daily medical care.  I am told that his condition is slowly improving.”

The Joliet Police Department arrested 36-year-old GIOVANNY Y. AGUILAR (pictured), of Joliet.

According to the Department’s press release obtained by Voice For Us, on the morning of Sunday, May 19, 2024, officers were dispatched to a residence in the 800 block of Croghan Avenue after receiving an animal cruelty complaint.

Upon arrival, officers learned that AGUILAR was seen in the backyard of his residence “violently kicking” a dog numerous times while the furvictim laid on the ground. In the press release, police identified the dog as a Bull Terrier but no additional information is known at this time.

Police and a representative from Joliet Township Animal Control found the dog still laying in the backyard of the residence. “The dog appeared conscious, but otherwise unresponsive”, stated the release.

Police said that at one point AGUILAR came out of the residence, picked up the dog, and tried to run back inside. Officers ordered AGUILAR to put the dog down but he ignored the officers’ commands and resisted when police attempted to arrest him.

After struggling, officers were able to place AGUILAR under arrest.

Will County Animal Control took the dog to be treated. Police said that the extent of his/her injuries is not known.

AGUILAR was processed and released on a Notice to Appear for Aggravated Cruelty to Animals and Resisting a Peace Officer.

I have sent out a few emails to inquire about the furvictim’s well-being. If I receive a response, I will post an update.

On a separate note, AGUILAR is listed on the Illinois sex offender registry after he pleaded guilty in 2009 to possession of child sex abuse images.

The Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office announced the arrest of 66-year-old DOMINGO RODRIGUEZ (pictured).

In a press release, the sheriff's office said that on the early evening of May 14, 2024, deputies assigned to the Patrol Operations Bureau responded to the area of East Beach at Fort Desoto Park after receiving reports about a deceased dog wrapped in a plastic bag.

Upon arrival, deputies found a male Bulldog mix with his head decapitated, floating in the mangroves. According to the release, Pinellas County Animal Services scanned the dog for a microchip and were able to identify him as Dexter, the 4-year-old Bulldog mix whom RODRIGUEZ had adopted from them four days prior.

When deputies interviewed RODRIGUEZ at his residence, he “admitted to adopting Dexter and told them that Dexter must have run away overnight on May 10th,” stated the release.

Although RODRIGUEZ also admitted to traveling to Fort Desoto Park on May 11, 2024, he contradicted himself several times during his statement. He told deputies that he was there for about twenty-five minutes.

According to the arrest affidavit obtained by Voice For Us, surveillance cameras captured RODRIGUEZ driving his pickup truck in that area of Fort DeSoto Park on Saturday, May 11, 2024, with a cooler in the back.

RODRIGUEZ’s wife told deputies that when she went to bed on Friday night, Dexter was alive and well. She added that when she woke up on Saturday morning, Dexter and her husband were gone.

At RODRIGUEZ’s home, deputies also found bags like the one in which Dexter was found.

The murderer was placed under arrest and charged with one count of Animal Cruelty and one count of Disposal of Bodies of Dead Animals. He was released the same day from the Pinellas County Jail after he was able to post a $5,150 bail.

The investigation continues.

Investigators with the Pennsylvania SPCA charged 30-year-old CAITLIN MICHELLE PERRY with aggravated cruelty to animals in connection with the death of a miniature Pitbull-type dog named Archie.

PERRY is the owner of Wiggle Butts Co. which she runs out of her home on Houston Street in Lancaster County.

Archie was being fostered by PERRY and at one point, as PERRY left her house to go to a neighbor’s home, Archie was attacked by PERRY’s dogs. When PERRY went back home,

she found Archie hypothermic and bleeding with numerous bites.

PERRY contacted a friend of hers who works at the Humane Society of Harrisburg who advised PERRY to take Archie to an emergency animal hospital. PERRY told her friend that she did not have the money and her friend recommended euthanizing him. PERRY explained that she had found an adopting family for Archie, so she declined euthanizing him and said that she wanted to wait.

PERRY’s friend then picked up Archie and took him to her home in an attempt to nurse him back to health. Archie was gravely injured and sadly succumbed to the injuries he sustained.

PERRY’s friend then reached out to the PSPCA and explained what happened. She took Archie’s body to the shelter for a necropsy and told the PSPCA that in the past there had been other animal attacks at PERRY’s home.

The necropsy determined that Archie died of shock, blood loss, and pain from the bite wounds. The results noted that despite the severity of the injuries, prompt intervention might have saved him.

On May 8, 2024, the Pennsylvania SPCA charged PERRY with aggravated cruelty to animals by causing serious bodily injury or death, torture.

PERRY is free on $25,000 unsecured bail. Court records show that she is due back at Lancaster County District Court on June 14, 2024, at 1:30 p.m.
