I was told by the Joliet Police Department that “…the dog is a 10-year-old brindle mini bull terrier named “Nibbles”. He received emergency veterinary care that day of the incident and continues to receive daily medical care. I am told that his condition is slowly improving.”

The Joliet Police Department arrested 36-year-old GIOVANNY Y. AGUILAR (pictured), of Joliet.
According to the Department’s press release obtained by Voice For Us, on the morning of Sunday, May 19, 2024, officers were dispatched to a residence in the 800 block of Croghan Avenue after receiving an animal cruelty complaint.
Upon arrival, officers learned that AGUILAR was seen in the backyard of his residence “violently kicking” a dog numerous times while the furvictim laid on the ground. In the press release, police identified the dog as a Bull Terrier but no additional information is known at this time.
Police and a representative from Joliet Township Animal Control found the dog still laying in the backyard of the residence. “The dog appeared conscious, but otherwise unresponsive”, stated the release.
Police said that at one point AGUILAR came out of the residence, picked up the dog, and tried to run back inside. Officers ordered AGUILAR to put the dog down but he ignored the officers’ commands and resisted when police attempted to arrest him.
After struggling, officers were able to place AGUILAR under arrest.
Will County Animal Control took the dog to be treated. Police said that the extent of his/her injuries is not known.
AGUILAR was processed and released on a Notice to Appear for Aggravated Cruelty to Animals and Resisting a Peace Officer.
I have sent out a few emails to inquire about the furvictim’s well-being. If I receive a response, I will post an update.
On a separate note, AGUILAR is listed on the Illinois sex offender registry after he pleaded guilty in 2009 to possession of child sex abuse images.
