TRISTAN BLAINE WOLCOTT caught on video striking and throwing down the stairs a malnourished dog

The Beckley Police Department received an animal neglect complaint involving a residence on Wickman Avenue. The complainant had a video showing their neighbor throwing a dog down a set of stairs. The complaint advised that the dog was malnourished and appeared to have broken legs.

 

On August 16, 2024, an officer responded to the given address to investigate and upon arrival the officer made contact with a woman who said the dog was hers.

 

The officer reported that the dog was extremely malnourished and that his/her back legs were swollen and had open cuts. The officer further reported that the dog’s back legs appeared to not be working.

 

The officer also made contact with 27-year-old TRISTAN BLAINE WOLCOTT (pictured) and questioned him about the dog. WOLCOTT did not immediately give the officer his real name and identified himself as “Tristan Primeaux”.

 

According to the officer, during the interview WOLCOTT became “nervous”, was “apprehensive” and would not answer clearly.

 

One of the videos that the officer obtained from the complainant and that was dated August 16, 2024, showed WOLCOTT grabbing the furvictim, striking him/her, and throwing him/her down the stairs.

 

In another video, which was stamped August 8, 2024, the dog can be seen displaying obvious injury to his/her legs.

 

WOLCOTT was arrested and booked into the Southern Regional Jail on felony animal cruelty and misdemeanor obstruction of an officer.

 

At the time of writing, the Beckley Police Department has not responded to my several emails requesting information about the dog.

DEANGELO ANTWON GODARD JR charged with setting home on fire with dog locked inside

The Greenville Police Department arrested 23-year-old DEANGELO ANTWON GODARD JR (pictured).

 

It started as a call for service for a domestic altercation at a residence on 5190 Deveron Street in Greenville. On the early afternoon of Sunday, July 7, 2024, GODARD’s girlfriend reported being assaulted and punched by GODARD. At one point she left the house and was able to get a ride to a nearby fast-food restaurant where she called for help.

 

Officers with Greenville Police escorted the woman back to her house to retrieve some belongings and discovered that the house was on fire. As they cleared the home to make sure that GODARD was not still there, they found and successfully rescued the woman’s dog who was trapped in a bedroom.

 

GODARD was located on July 11, 2024, on Bradford Drive and placed under arrest. He was booked into the Pitt County Detention Center on charges of felony cruelty to animals, second degree arson, injury to personal property, injury to real property, and crime of domestic violence. Bond was set at $370,000.

 

As for the furvictim, all I am able to tell you is that he/she was not injured and remained with his/her guardian, GODARD’s girlfriend.

 

As the editor of Voice For Us I strive to provide detailed and accurate information about the animals involved in the articles I publish. I emailed several agencies and departments, to inquire about the dog’s wellbeing, age, name, breed, gender, and the dog’s pictures.

“.... please note that the City is not required to reveal information (see e.g. your multiple questions contained in your public records request), unless that information is public record.  That is, ‘[t]he distinction between records and information also means that simply because a public employee knows a specific piece of information, he or she has no obligation to reveal that information to anyone who requests it.’ David M. TERRY EUGENE PEGUES arrested – Twenty malnourished dogs and ten dead ones found at his home

47-year-old TERRY EUGENE PEGUES and his wife, 54-year-old CHARLOTTE FANT PEGUES (both pictured), were indicted by the Lafayette County grand jury last week on ten counts of animal cruelty.

 

The wife, Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs at the University of Mississippi, turned herself into the Lafayette County Sheriff’s Office on September 9, 2024. She was later released on a $75,000 bond.

 

In an email to The Daily Mississippian, University of Mississippi Director of News and Media Relations Jacob Batte wrote: “The university is aware of the indictment and the employee has been placed on leave. The alleged charges did not result from any actions taken at or for the university, and the university is not among the parties involved in the investigation by the Lafayette County Sheriff’s Department. The university will not provide further comment at this time.”

 

The Daily Mississippian reports that the wife’s attorney, Graham P. Carner, released a statement via email on behalf of the client.

He wrote: “Dr. Charlotte Pegues had dedicated her life to service to her community and the University of Mississippi. She has served with integrity and character, which are now unfairly called into question by a rushed indictment. Dr. Pegues is not guilty, and we will aggressively defend against these charges. In order not to be a distraction to the University she loves and that has loved her, Dr. Pegues will be taking a period of personal leave. She has asks for privacy as she works to preserve her good name.”

Deputies with the Lafayette County Sheriff’s Office arrested 47-year-old TERRY EUGENE PEGUES (pictured).

 

According to the office’s release, on August 4, 2024, deputies responded to a possible animal cruelty case at a residence on County Road 418. Upon arrival, deputies sadly found ten dead dogs who were “still attached  to their collars and chains”, stated the release. Deputies additionally found several other dogs who were alive but “appeared very malnourished.”

 

No one was home when deputies responded so investigators were called in and showed up with a search warrant.

 

Officials rescued twenty (20) dogs who were taken to a local veterinarian office for evaluation and care.

 

On August 7, 2024, PEGUES was arrested and charged with ten counts of animal cruelty. He was booked at the Lafayette County Jail and bond was set at $75,000 which he was able to post and was subsequently released.

 

The sheriff’s office said the investigation is ongoing and encourages whoever has information to call deputies at (662) - 234 - 6421 or LOU Crime Stoppers at (662) - 234 - 8799. Thank you!

 

The Daily Mississippian reports that PEGUES and his wife, Charlotte Fant Pegues, who serves as vice chancellor of student affairs at the University of Mississippi, are listed on the deed of trust for a property on County Road 418.

PEGUES’ wife was not mentioned in the Lafayette County Sheriff's Office press release nor there have been no reports of an investigation into her.

 

On August 12, 2024, Jacob Batte, Director of News and Media Relations for the University of Mississippi, told The Daily Mississippian: “University leaders are deeply disturbed and appalled by any instance of animal cruelty. The university is not among the parties involved in the ongoing investigation by the Lafayette County Sheriff’s Department, and the university is not aware of any charges against a university employee in relation to that investigation. Given the ongoing nature of the investigation, the university will make no further comment at this time.”
