On Wednesday, July 3, 2024, 45-year-old JESSICA M. CHARF (pictured), pleaded not guilty to intentional animal cruelty charges after she tried to neuter her two dogs.

According to the Douglas Sheriff’s Office, CHARF wanted to neuter her 7-month-old dogs, Cash and Tango, but could not afford a veterinarian to perform the procedure. The sheriff’s office said in a press release that CHARF then googled “banding” “and "decided to neuter her dogs by fixing elastic bands around their scrotums cutting off the blood supply.” This caused Cash and Tango to experience “pain, injury, and infection.”

As explained in the press release, this type of castration is commonly used on livestock, and it is not recommended for dogs.

The sheriff’s office said that CHARF claimed she sedated the dogs the same as a veterinarian would. She used a drug called Acepromazine that was prescribed for a different dog she had in the past. CHARF admitted that she never consulted a vet for proper use or dosage on Cash and Tango.

The furvictims were placed in the care of the Nebraska Humane Society and needed surgery to get rid of the infections that the banding caused. The veterinarian who handled their medical care said: “Luckily the infection was quickly controlled.” The vet explained that the infection close to the blood supply has the potential to become fatal if sepsis sets in.

CHARF was arrested on May 22, 2024, and charged with two felony counts of torture of an animal. She was released from the Douglas County Jail three days later after posting a $2,500 bail, 10% of the $25,000 set by Judge Thomas Harmon.

As stated before, CHARF pleaded not guilty to the charges and waived her preliminary hearing. Her case was sent to Douglas County District Court.

On August 9, 2023, the Nebraska Humane Society (NHS) was called to the City View Apartments in Omaha to check on the well-being of a dog.

The dog’s guardian, 35-year-old GABRIEL MOORE (pictured), had recently been arrested and it was reported that no one was there to care for the dog.

Officials made contact with MOORE at the Douglas County Department of Corrections and he gave NHS permission to check on the dog and asked that the dog be euthanized.

An officer with the NHS then went to MOORE’s apartment and found a female Labrador mix.

The officer noted that the dog had skin condition and several areas were missing fur.

The officer took the Voiceless Victim to the NHS where she was evaluated by medical staff.

Veterinarians identified what appeared to be 2nd degree burns in various stages of healing and explained that the burns were consistent with “thermal burns.”

The dog also had injuries consistent with her ears and tail being “repeatedly grabbed and pulled with force.”

Veterinarians took skin swabs of the burns and, because of MOORE’s recent arrest on suspicion of sexual assault, they also collected a vaginal swab from the dog.

The samples from the burns detected the presence of hydroquinone. A search warrant executed at MOORE’s apartment led to the discovery of multiple aerosol cans, cigarette lighters, and butane torches.

Human male DNA was present in the vaginal swab, indicating that the defenseless soul was raped while in MOORE’s care.

The NHS requested an arrest warrant for Animal Abuse a felony; the Douglas County Attorney's Office also charged MOORE with Indecency With an Animal a misdemeanor.

The intentional cruelty charge carries up to three years in prison with no mandatory minimum. Indecency with an animal charge carries a maximum of three months in jail and a $500 fine, a f_ _ king joke!

MOORE is currently being held on a $150,000 bond.

I learned from the Douglas County Attorney’s Office that the dog, whom they referred to as Preacher, “is doing great! ……she made a full recovery and was adopted out to someone else.”

On May 3, 2024, the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office Fugitive Warrants Division found and arrested 38-year-old KENDRA L. DAWKINS (pictured).

DAWKINS was “a wanted fugitive for Torture of an Animal (IIIA Felony) resulting from a Nebraska Humane Society animal neglect investigation” said the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office in a media release.

It all started on December 8, 2023, when the Nebraska Humane Society received a call from DAWKINS who said that her dog, a Pitbull mix named Diamond, was either sick or dying.

An Animal Control Officer responded to DAWKINS’ residence near 45th Street and Crown Point Avenue and found Diamond “to be severely emaciated and unresponsive.”

At first the officer thought Diamond was dead, but then noticed shallow and irregular breathing. The officer also noted old, open puncture wounds on his/her face.

DAWKINS told the officer that Diamond may have been poisoned by a former neighbor and added that she had no money or time to take Diamond to a veterinarian.

Due to the advanced condition of neglect, Diamond was sadly euthanized.

Medical staff at the Nebraska Humane Society also noted that the wounds on Diamond’s face and legs were infected; one wound was so severely infected that it would have required surgery to repair.

A necropsy was performed on Diamond and results determined that Diamond’s bone marrow fat content was 1.51% indicating starvation; healthy dogs' fat content is anywhere between 65%-98%. A test for liver poisoning came back negative.

On February 20, 2024, a felony warrant was issued for DAWKINS’ arrest.

DAWKINS is now behind bars at the Douglas County Jail awaiting her first court appearance.
