The Los Angeles Police Department’s Rampart detectives have announced the arrest of 27-year-old JOEBOURY COLEMAN.

In a press release, police said that on the afternoon of Sunday, July 7, 2024, Rampart Patrol Officers responded to the 4000 block of Oakwood Avenue in the city’s Koreatown neighborhood, after concerned citizens advised about videos posted on social media showing a dog being abused.

According to the information provided by the reporting citizens, in the videos, a shirtless male could be seen grabbing a dog by the neck before the furvictim was kicked and thrown from a multi-story stairway.

Officers were able to locate the furvictim, a female 7-month-old puppy, in COLEMAN’s apartment.

Police took the puppy to a local animal shelter for medical treatment and she is now being treated for a broken hind leg, consistent with a fall, and for poor nutrition. Surgery may be necessary to repair the leg.

COLEMAN was placed under arrest and booked into the Los Angeles County Jail on two felony counts of cruelty to an animal.

The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office tells me that COLEMAN was arraigned on July 9, 2024, and pled not guilty to the charges.

After his arraignment, two additional counts of animal cruelty were added to the case, and for those two charges COLEMAN will be arraigned on July 22, 2024. So, he is now facing a total of four charges.

COLEMAN is also accused of failing to provide care for a cat named Medusa and the co-defendant in that complaint is 22-year-old SHAYLA STARR ALCALA.

On July 12, 2024, ALCALA was arraigned and pled not guilty to two counts of cruelty to an animal. She will be back in court on July 22, 2024.

At the time of writing, I have not heard back from the LAPD regarding the furvictims’ wellbeing. If I get a response, I will update the article accordingly.

The Fresno County Sheriff's Office announced the arrest of 41-year-old CARL JOSEPH MENDES (pictured).

In a press release, the sheriff’s office said that on Friday, May 3, 2024, someone passing by the area of W. Mt. Whitney and Chestnut Avenues in Laton, noticed dead animals at a family farm and alerted the sheriff’s office.

Deputies responded to the scene and made contact with MENDES.

Deputies found the property in complete disarray, with about 300 animals ranging from chickens, dogs, ducks, goats, pigs, turkeys, and more — hundreds of them deceased, and the others malnourished and mistreated.

As deputies were walking around the property, they noticed they were stepping on the bones of dead animals.

Deputies learned that four teenagers were living with MENDES, so Child Protective Services were notified.

MENDES was arrested and booked into the Fresno County jail on a misdemeanor charge of child neglect. The sheriff’s Office said he will likely face animal neglect charges soon.

As explained in the press release, members of Fresno Humane Animal Services responded to the scene to investigate and their findings “will dictate the necessary additional criminal charges Mendes faces.”

The Anaheim Police Department announced that on April 18, 2024, Patrol Officers took 35-years-old JOSEPH MICHAEL SANDERS (pictured), into custody and booked him for an arrest warrant that had been issued for felony animal cruelty.

SANDERS was caught on video repeatedly kicking and beating a small dog. The incident happened on the morning of Sunday, April 7, 2024, in the 800 block of North Brookhurst Street in Anaheim.

FOX 11 Los Angeles reports that in the video, SANDERS “is seen walking from the street corner down into a berm. In one hand, he has a bike, in the other, he's carrying the small dog. Before walking down into the drainage ditch, the dog is heard yelping loudly.”  Then, as SANDERS “continues closer to the camera, he drops the bike to the ground, takes a few more steps, then proceeds to dropkick the puppy.  The scene continues just off camera, with the puppy wailing while the man is heard grunting as he kicks the dog over and over.”

According to ABC 7, a second video shows SANDERS “walk back to pick up his bike as the dog still follows closely behind.”

Ms. Alexa Pratt, PIO for Orange County Animal Care, told ABC 7 it's a heart-wrenching moment that shows animals just want unconditional love. She said: “They just want loving homes. They want to be with their people, so what we really want is for someone to call and have some information, hopefully, so we can get that dog away from that situation and into a loving family - a home where he's just loved and cherished.”

Police do not know where the dog is and are reaching out to the public for assistance.
