On January 29, 2025, the Bucks County District Attorney’s Office, the Newtown Township Police Department, and the Bucks County SPCA, held a press conference to announce charges filed against 40-year-old GEORGE GOOCH ASH (pictured).
ASH is accused of stabbing two family dogs to death. The furvictims are identified as a 9-year-old female Beagle-Collie mix named Shyla and a 7-year-old male Beagle-Lab mix named Blake.
On the afternoon of January 18, 2025, officers with the Newtown Township Police Department responded to a residence on 25 Essex Place in Newtown Township after ASH had called 911 to report that he had stabbed Shyla and Blake.
ASH told 911 dispatchers that after visiting his mother at a nursing home, he became angry and took his anger out on Shyla and Blake by stabbing them with kitchen knives. ASH added that he also stabbed himself a few times.
Upon arrival, officers made contact with ASH as he exited the home. He was wearing blood-stained clothing and was taken to the hospital for medical treatment.
An investigation determined that ASH began abusing Shyla and Blake earlier in the day “by kicking and hitting them”, stated the press release by the DA’s Office. At one point ASH stabbed Blake with a knife and “the blade broke off inside the dog.” ASH then grabbed a second knife and proceeded to stab both Shyla and Blake until the defenseless victims were deceased.
Officers executed a search warrant and found “bloodstains throughout the first floor of the home and several areas of blood pooling on the first floor, including inside of a dog bed.”
During the search, on the kitchen floor officers found a steak knife handle that had a large portion of the blade broken off.
Officers also found a second knife, described as a chef-style knife with an 8-inch blade, inside the kitchen sink. The knife was wrapped up in a bloody rag.
Both knives appeared to have dried blood on them.
On the kitchen counter, next to the sink, officers found balled up paper towels covered with blood.
Shyla and Blake were found lifeless lying next to each other near the kitchen. According to the press release, Shyla and Blake had “slashing and puncture-type injuries to their torso.”
The remains of both furvictims were sent to the University of Pennsylvania for necropsies and reports are pending.
On January 22, 2025, ASH was charged with two felony counts of aggravated cruelty to animals and two misdemeanor counts of cruelty to animals.
I checked the murderer’s court records and his arraignment date is not listed.
During the press conference, Bucks County District Attorney Jennifer Schorn said: “To say the defendant’s actions were inhumane is an understatement. They were sadistic.” She went on to say: “I commend the outstanding work done by the Newtown Township Police Department and the Bucks County SPCA, and I can assure you that this case will be prosecuted to the fullest extent.”
