HERSHEL WILLIAM CLINT CANADY JR, operator of a Comer farm, facing animal cruelty charges

The Madison County Sheriff’s Office arrested 27-year-old HERSHEL WILLIAM CLINT CANADY (pictured via Georgia Crime Magazine).

 

Arrest and court records show that CANADY is facing eleven (11) misdemeanor counts of cruelty to animals and one felony count of theft by deception.

 

Athens Banner-Herald reports that CANADY “operates a farm off S&H Road north of Comer, where he sells horses, ponies and donkeys.”

 

According to the news outlet, investigator Chris Guest with the MCSO said that CANADY was not physically abusing the animals but he was neglecting them by depriving them of medical care. Mr. Guest said: “There are 11 (animals) that we can definitely make cases on where he refused to get them medical care.”

 

Mr. Guest explained that the felony deception charge refers to the sale of several donkeys to a woman in Arizona. According to Mr. Guest, the woman bought more than a dozen donkeys from CANADY with the understanding “they had a clean bill of health and everything was fine.” Sadly, at least five of the donkeys purchased died. The remaining donkeys were then tested by a veterinarian and when reports showed that they were suffering from a variety of diseases, they were placed in quarantine.

 

According to Mr. Guest, “Animal control has warned him; trying to get this taken care of without any actions being taken. But he pretty much ignored them.”

 

Athens Banner-Herald reached out to CANADY for a comment and he declined. Despite the findings of the investigation conducted by the sheriff’s office and the U.S. Department of Agriculture, CANADY denies the charges. His attorney, Mayes Davison, told the news agency that his client is shocked “because he’s complied with every aspect that we know of in the requirements to take care of his animals.”

 

I have reached out to the USDA to inquire about the four open complaints the agency has against CANADY’s farm. If I get a response, I will post an update.

 

CANADY was arrested on June 13, 2024, and released the following day.

NIKKI CAMERLENGO, owner of Pawsitively Paradise, arrested following probe into deaths of dogs

The owner of Pawsitively Paradise, a dog training facility in Palm City, Martin County, was arrested after an investigation into the deaths of multiple dogs entrusted into her care.

 

The Martin County Sheriff’s Office said in a press release that 35-year-old NIKKI CAMERLENGO (pictured), was taken into custody on June 19, 2024, in Ft. Pierce and therefore she was booked into the St. Lucie County Jail.


CAMERLENGO has been charged with one felony count of animal cruelty in connection with the latest dog who died in her care at the facility. The furvictim, a 2-year-old Cavapoo puppy named Beau, died in March 2024.

 

The sheriff’s office also mentioned a 15-year-old Goldendoodle named Flurie and a 2-year-old Flat Coat Retriever name Mako who suddenly died while “in the sole care” of CAMERLENGO “at different times for training, boarding, or grooming.” As stated in the release, “All of the dogs were in good health prior to being taken to Pawsitively Paradise.”

 

The Martin County Sheriff’s Office opened a criminal investigation and Detective Christine Polizzi spent weeks trying to determine why Beau, Flurie, and Mako suddenly died without explanation.

 

Detective Polizzi worked closely with ASPCA forensic experts at labs in Florida as well as a lab in Texas where the remains of Beau and Flurie were sent to be examined.

 

The results of the necropsy performed on Beau revealed that “Beau’s injuries were severe and included blows to the neck, chest, belly, and private areas causing hemorrhaging to the brain.”

 

“Flurie also died from acute hemorrhaging of the brain.”

 

Mako’s family arranged for a private necropsy to be performed on him. Mako mysteriously died in 2022, and results showed that he drowned on his own vomit.

 

“Forensic experts revealed that the dogs did not die quickly, instead they succumbed to long and painful deaths”, stated the release.

 

After the Martin County Sheriff’s Office launched an investigation, CAMERLENGO moved her business to Ft. Pierce, where she was located and arrested.

 

According to the Martin County Sheriff’s Office, after investigative reports into CAMERLENGO surfaced, multiple other reports came to light involving dogs who mysteriously died or became severely injured while in CAMERLEGO’s care.

 

Most of the furvictims were under 4 years old. Unfortunately, some of the dogs were cremated, others date back several years, and the deaths of others were not reported. This means that in lack of medical records, the deaths of these Innocent Souls could not be included in the investigation.

 

CAMERLENGO was released the same day of her arrest after posting bail. A Martin County judge ordered that she not possess or be responsible for any animals until further order of the court. The Martin County Sheriff’s Office said that additional charges are expected.

HEINRICH KARLOS GONZALEZ MULLER arrested for animal cruelty and animal fighting

The Lake County Sheriff’s Office arrested 53-year-old HEINRICH KARLOS GONZALEZ MULLER (pictured).

 

Court records show that GONZALEZ MULLER is facing a combination of one hundred and twenty-two (122) felony counts of cruelty to animals and animal fighting and baiting.

 

According to the probable Cause Affidavit obtained by Voice For Us through public search records, on April 27, 2024, Deputy Claxton and Deputy Banes responded to 38518 Ilex Trail in Eustis “in reference to a 911 hang up call to service.”

 

Upon arrival, deputies walked to the rear of the property to try to ascertain who called 911. Further behind the property, deputies saw 30-50 plus Hispanic males who became startled by the deputies’ presence and started loading up their vehicles with chickens in cages before speeding out of the property. The deputies then walked to the back of the property and discovered thirteen (13) chickens, and a goat. Sadly, in a hole, they also found at least ten (10) dead chickens.

 

The deputies reported that the property had a shooting range, as well as an animal fighting ring with a score board hanging on a post.

 

During the walk, the deputies came across two enclosed trailers and they could hear roosters crowing inside. Animal Control was alerted and Animal Control Investigator Wallyn responded to the scene. She saw multiple wire type cages next to abandoned vehicles scattered to the rear of the property. She then opened the trailers to let air in and found several roosters panting.

 

Officials were able to determine that GONZALEZ MULLER was the property owner after running a search on the Lake County Property appraiser's website. They also learned that 38518 Ilex Trail was his mailing address.

 

At that point a search warrant was executed and officials discovered and confiscated seventy-two (72) items of cockfighting paraphernalia including but not limited to gaffs, knives, spur saws, dubbing shears, waxed string, sparing muffs, rooster performance enhancement drugs, scales, and scabbards.

 

During the search, forty (40) live rosters were removed. The poor souls had no water. According to the affidavit, one of the forty roosters was found outfitted with items indicating that he was being prepared to fight. The roosters were taken to Lake County Animal Shelter to be evaluated. Sadly, seven (7) of them had to be euthanized due to the injuries sustained during the damn fights.

 

When searching the hole with the deceased chickens inside, officials found that one of them was still alive with his/her chest area slashed open. The affidavit stated, “It seems to have been discarded in the hole to die.”

 

GONZALEZ MULLER was arrested on June 16, 2024. Court records show that his arraignment is scheduled for July 15, 2024, at 8:30 a.m.
