On February 4, 2025, deputies with the Davidson County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to a residence in the 1000 block of Liberty Church Road in Thomasville after receiving a welfare check request for chickens at the residence.

During the investigation, deputies determined that 37-year-old RIGOBERTO VAZQUEZ-FERRER (pictured), was cutting the comb and wattles off of an American Game rooster.

Deputies later determined that several other chickens had the same type of injuries.

According to the press release by the sheriff’s office, VAZQUEZ-FERRER was found to be in direct possession of cockfighting paraphernalia.

Deputies arrested VAZQUEZ-FERRER and transported him to the Davidson County Magistrate’s Office, where he was charged with six felony counts of animal cruelty and two misdemeanor counts of cockfighting paraphernalia. His bond was set at $20,000 and he is scheduled to appear in court on February 24, 2025, at 9:00 a.m.

Deputies Soles and Daniel with the Davidson County Sheriff’s Office Animal Control Division ask anyone with information related to this case to call (333) - 242 - 2105. Thank you!

On December 4, 2024, the Monroe Police Department received concerning information about the welfare of dogs at a residence on 300 Magnolia Drive.

According to the Department’s press release, officers responded to the given address to investigate and in the yard, they found five dogs who were “severely emaciated.” Sadly, officers also discovered a deceased dog.

All of the Voiceless Victims were removed from the property.

Police said a necropsy was performed on the deceased furvictim and results showed he/she died from “dehydration and starvation.”

Police arrested 46-year-old BRANDON WILLIAM JACKSON (pictured) and charged him with five felony counts of animal cruelty and five misdemeanor counts of failing to vaccinate his dogs.

JACKSON was processed in the Union County Detention Center with a $2,000 bond. At the time of writing, records show JACKSON bonded out of jail and is scheduled to appear in Union County District Court on May 8, 2025, at 9:30 a.m.

I took the liberty of naming the deceased furvictim Forest for the tribute image. Should his/her given name be made public, I will rectify it accordingly.

The Gaston County Police Department made an arrest in reference to an animal cruelty case that occurred last month.

On October 3, 2024, Gaston County Police Animal Care and Enforcement responded to a home on 2106 Withers Street in Gastonia where officials found six dogs chained up. Police said in a press release that all the furvictims appeared to be “severely malnourished with multiple injuries.”

All the dogs were removed and according to police, they are “with a rescue organization which is providing comprehensive care for them, focusing on socialization and meeting their general needs to support their well-being and development.”

As the investigation progressed, on November 26, 2024, police arrested 49-year-old BOBBY LEE WATSON (pictured).

WATSON was charged with six counts of animal cruelty and booked into the Gaston County Jail. He was released after posting a $100,000 bond.

Police did not release any additional information about the dogs, so I emailed the Department as well as Gaston County Police Animal Care and Enforcement. If I get a response, I will post an update.
