HASSAN ARTIUS MOORE arrested and five dogs rescued from a Pitt County home

On March 3, 2025, Greenville Animal Protective Services were alerted to an act of animal cruelty through an anonymous tip. They learned that 29-year-old HASSAN ARTIUS MOORE (pictured) was abusing his five dogs.


Officer Brittany Thompson received the anonymous tip along with a video showing MOORE in the area of Deck and McClellan Streets, inflicting severe abuse on a defenseless puppy. MOORE repeatedly slammed the pup against the ground, kicked her, punched her, and threw her around. MOORE then threw the puppy into the back seat of a car and drove away.


Two days later, an Animal Protective Services Officer responded to an unrelated call in the area of Pitt Street. In a nearby driveway, the Officer spotted a car matching MOORE’s vehicle. A further investigation eventually led the Officer to MOORE’s residence in the 700 block of Hooker Road where the Officer discovered two puppies and three adult dogs in unhealthy living conditions.


The Greenville Police Department arrested MOORE and charged him with felony animal cruelty, misdemeanor animal cruelty, and failure to vaccinate.

Additionally, MOORE was cited for violations including the use of excessively heavy and short tethers, unclean housing conditions, leash law infractions, and failure to properly dispose of animal waste.


All of the furvictims are now safe in foster homes.

RONALD EUGENE DAVIS arrested after twenty-one emaciated dogs were rescued from deplorable living conditions

On the evening of February 16, 2025, deputies with the Rutherford County Sheriff's Office, Road Patrol Division acting on a tip regarding neglected dogs in the area of Tisdale Street in Ellenboro, conducted extra patrols.


The sheriff’s office said in a press release that deputies did in fact find multiple dogs at a local residence who appeared “extremely malnourished” and launched an investigation.


The following morning, with the assistance of Animal Control Services and Foothills Health District, deputies went to the residence in question and began removing the dogs.


According to the press release, once inside the residence, officials immediately noticed that it was “in complete disarray, floors were covered with animal feces, and conditions that can only be described as deplorable.”


The sheriff’s office said the entire rescue operation of twenty-one dogs took several hours. As the dogs were being brought out of the residence, deputies saw that the Voiceless Victims had fur matted with dried feces, they were suffering from noticeable hair loss, and their bones were showing through the skin.


In connection with this case, deputies arrested 54-year-old RONALD EUGENE DAVIS (pictured) and charged him with sixteen counts of animal cruelty, eight counts of dog vaccination violation, and five counts of cruelty to animals.


Animal Control tells me that no deceased animals were found on the property and none of the rescued dogs were euthanized. To my question about the furvictims’ well-being, the answer was: “Most are still trying to decompress. Have made a little progress with interacting with the adults. As of now we expect them to make a full recovery.”

JARVIS EARL HYMAN JR arrested for failing to feed his dogs leading to the death of some of them

The Craven County Sheriff’s Office said that 50-year-old JARVIS EARL HYMAN JR (pictured), has been arrested “in a disturbing case involving felony animal cruelty, illegal possession of firearms by a felon, and possession of weapons of mass destruction. “


Court records show that HYMAN was taken into custody on February 7, 2025.


According to the press release by the sheriff’s office, several reports about HYMAN led to Animal protective Services and deputies investigating him.


The sheriff’s office did not release details of the animal cruelty charges and when I reached out to Animal Protective Services they declined to provide information.


However, the arrest warrant I was provided with, accuses HYMAN of intentionally depriving a male Pitbull named Picollo of necessary sustenance causing his death. According to the warrant, Picollo was left “for about a month without food or water.”


The warrant also accused HYMAN of intentionally depriving of necessary sustenance two female Pitbull mix named Cali and Cerco and seven Pitbull mix puppies, six males and one female. The warrant stated that Cali and Cerco were found malnourished, while the puppies were found to be suffering from anemia, low body temperature, and intestinal parasites.


Additionally, HYMAN is accused of intentionally depriving two female Pitbull mix puppies of necessary sustenance which resulted in their death.


The warrant further accuses HYMAN of failing to vaccinate Cerco and a male Pitbull named Bubba.


HYMAN was charged with felony kill animal by starvation, misdemeanor cruelty to animals, dog/cat/ferret vaccination, misdemeanor cruelty to animals, possession of firearm by felon, and possess weapon mass destruct.


Court records show that HYMAN is scheduled to appear at Craven County District Court on March 5, 2025, at 9:00 a.m. before Judge Andrew Kent Wigmore.
