NIKOLAS DUSHON HART arrested on accusations of stomping on a defenseless rabbit and throwing him from a second-story apartment

- California, USA -

The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office announced that 25-year-old NIKOLAS DUSHON HART was charged in a felony animal cruelty case.

According to Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan J. Hochman, on the evening of February 11, 2026, HART killed his girlfriend’s rabbit in a “violent outburst.”

HART is accused of stomping on a two-month-old male rabbit named Momo, then placing him in a trash bag, and throwing him from the window of the couple’s second-story apartment.

DA Hochman said in a press release that Momo “died from blunt force trauma to the chest, abdomen and face.”

HART is also accused of “assaulting his girlfriend on prior occasions”, said DA Hochman.

HART was charged with one felony count of animal cruelty; one misdemeanor count each of injury to a spouse or cohabitant and attempting to prevent or dissuade a victim/witness; and three misdemeanor counts of disobeying a court order to not contact the victim.

On April 6, 2026, at his arraignment, HART pleaded not guilty to all charges.

At the time of writing, records show HART is still in custody. A judge set bail at $150,000 and issued a protective order prohibiting HART from having any animals in his care. HART is slated to be back in Van Nuys Courthouse on April 16, 2026, for his preliminary hearing.

In a written statement, DA Hochman said: “That kind of criminal behavior will land you in prison. We will prove these charges in court and seek the full punishment under the law”.
