The San Antonio Police Department arrested 76-year-old RAUL JESUS CANALES JR. (pictured).
On the early afternoon of Sunday, May 24, 2026, officers were dispatched to a residence in the 500 block of Cavalier Avenue after receiving a report about a man killing dogs.
On arrival, officers met with CANALES and found numerous deceased dogs.
CANALES was placed under arrest and booked into the Bexar County Jail on charges of cruelty to non-livestock animals, third-degree felonies. Bond was set at $100,000.
Animal Control responded to the scene and “..took custody of any other living animal on the property”, said the press release by SAPD.
The arrest report by SAPD did not elaborate on what was done to the dogs or how they died.
I have emailed the SAPD to inquire about the dogs but I was told in an email that the investigation is still “active and ongoing” and no further details are available at this time.
