The League City Police Department announced the arrest of 56-year-old LISA CELESTE PFUND (pictured), of Seabrook.
On January 30, 2026, League City Animal Protection Officers responded to PetSuites League City on 1125 Calder Drive in reference to the death of a dog who had died at the facility during a grooming session.
The furvictim was a 5-year-old male Goldendoodle named Lincoln.
League City Animal Protection Officers launched an investigation which was later transferred to the Police Department.
Detective Joshua Coward of the League City Police Department’s Criminal Investigation Division conducted interviews and reviewed surveillance video as part of the investigation.
Footage of the approximately 10-11-minute-incident showed PFUND blow-drying Lincoln while he was on a cinch collar. Lincoln began spinning, causing the collar to tighten while PFUND made no attempt to loosen or remove the collar. Lincoln’s back legs slid off the table and he struggled on and off the table. After the first fall, PFUND can be seen on the phone wearing headphones and while Lincoln was hanging from his neck, PFUND wiped down the grooming table and left the room leaving Lincoln hanging.
After Lincoln’s second fall, PFUND can be seen picking up Lincoln and placing him on the table. Sadly at this stage Lincoln was lifeless, and it was only now that PFUND went to get help.
When Lincoln was found, his collar was so tight that it needed to be cut off to be removed.
An autopsy revealed that Lincoln suffered two dislocated vertebrae in his neck.
Detective Coward determined that Lincoln’s death resulted from negligence while in PFUND’s care.
On February 24, 2026, Detective Coward obtained a felony warrant for PFUND’s arrest.
Investigators found PFUND on March 30, 2026, after multiple attempts to locate her. She was arrested with assistance from the Galveston County Precinct 4 Constable's Office.
PFUND was tracked down at the InTown Suites Extended Stay, 480 West Bay Area Boulevard in Webster.
PFUND was transported to the Galveston County Jail and booked on one felony count of cruelty to a non-livestock animal. Bond was set at $50,000.
