IRMA ELVA SANCHEZ arrested after two dogs found malnourished and without food, water, or shelter

- Texas, USA -

On the early morning of Thursday, February 18, Laredo Police received an animal cruelty report and an officer responded to a property in the 4500 block of Christine Lane.

An animal control officer told police that she arrived at the residence to find a gray Pitbull who was chained to the front of the home.

The furbaby was “severely malnourished”, without shelter against the elements, and there was no food or water.

Reportedly, a neighbor had put some food in the dog’s bowl.

LMTonline reports that the animal control officer said this is the second time they responded to deal with the same issue.

And the question is, why wasn’t the furbaby removed after the first visit???

According to LMTonline, court documents state that the officer observed the dog’s ribs and spine were showing and wrote in the affidavit that the dog was trembling.

While officers were there, 67-year-old IRMA ELVA SANCHEZ (pictured below), arrived at the home.

At first SANCHEZ claimed the Pitbull was not hers and that a man was the dog’s guardian.

She later admitted she was the Pitbull’s guardian and states the dog had been given to her on December 4, 2020.

SANCHEZ explained that she is financially unable to provide the dog with veterinary care.

Furthermore, she could not turn the furbaby over to a shelter because she could not afford to pay the $30 transportation fee to Animal Control.

SANCHEZ then confessed she had another dog in her backyard who was in the same condition as the Pitbull.

Officers discovered a Doberman chained up and lying in feces.

The Doberman did not have adequate shelter, food, or water, and his/her ribs were showing.

SANCHEZ was placed under arrest and charged with two counts of cruelty to non-livestock animals.

Judge D. Garcia released SANCHEZ on a $2,000 recognizance bond!

The charge SANCHEZ is facing is a Class A MISDEMEANOR that carries a punishment of up to ONLY one year in jail, a $4,000 fine or both.
