COLLEEN RAE TALLEY arrested on accusations of killing her dog by suffocation with a trash bag

- Florida, USA -

The Lee County Sheriff's Office announced the arrest of 49-year-old COLLEEN RAE TALLEY (pictured).

According to the media release by the sheriff's office, the arrest is the result of an animal cruelty investigation stemming from a welfare check.

On March 25, 2026, a member of TALLEY’s family called the authorities asking them to check on TALLEY’s dog. Deputies responded to a residence on Lemon Road in Fort Myers where they learned that TALLEY had killed her dog by suffocating her with a trash bag.

The Lee County Sheriff’s Office Animal Cruelty Task Force responded to the scene and assumed the investigation.

The execution of a search warrant led to the discovery of “a freshly disturbed area beneath a tree on the property”, stated the release.

When authorities excavated the area, they found a deceased Cane Corso. The sheriff's office tells me the furvictim's name was Xena.

According to the arrest report provided to Voice For Us by the sheriff’s office, “Also located during the search was a shovel, and two swabs were collected from vomit that was located in the bedroom trash can.”

Xena was taken to Lee County Domestic Animal Services for further examination.

As per the arrest report, TALLEY “had expressed frustration with the canine for not listening and barking frequently. Talley stated that Colleen had previously mentioned either donating the canine or killing it.”

TALLEY was arrested and transported to the Lee County Jail. Bond was set at $5,000. At the time of writing, records show TALLEY is still in custody.

The murderer is now facing one felony count of aggravated animal cruelty. According to court records, TALLEY’s arraignment is slated for April 4, 2027, at Lee County Circuit Court 8:30 a.m.
