OMAR ORLANDO PEREZ charged with animal cruelty for abandoning his dog at a Pennsylvania airport

- Pennsylvania, USA -

The Allegheny Police Department announced that 42-year-old OMAR ORLANDO PEREZ is facing animal cruelty charges for abandoning his dog at Pittsburgh International Airport.

On Friday, March 20, 2026, at approximately 5:00 p.m. County Police officers working at Pittsburgh International Airport were alerted to an abandoned dog who “was running loose at the departures curb” said the police.

Officers along with witnesses were able to locate the furvictim, a male Labrador, who was safely secured.

An investigation led officers to PEREZ, of Robstown, Texas.

PEREZ initially claimed that he witnessed an Uber driver abandoning the dog. However, investigators determined that PEREZ left the dog behind when he realized that the dog could not fly with him.

Investigators reviewed security camera video which showed PEREZ letting the puppy out of a vehicle at the curb before unloading his luggage. The heartbreaking footage further showed that the puppy repeatedly attempted to follow PEREZ into the terminal as PEREZ kept chasing the poor soul away.

According to court records, PEREZ is facing two counts of animal cruelty and one count of animal abandonment. His arraignment is slated for April 27, 2026, at Allegheny County Magisterial District Court at 9:00 a.m.

Police said the puppy is doing well and has been placed in a foster home.
