The Burlington Police Department said that 45-years-old AUSTIN BELIVEAU JR (pictured), turned himself in one week after he attacked a dog in Burlington.
The incident happened on the morning of Tuesday, December 5, 2023, at Mill Pond Reservoir when a 69-year-old man was walking his dog, an 8-year-old female American Staffordshire Terrier named GiGi.
Police said they received a report that the man and his dog were attacked. From an investigation it emerged that a man on a bicycle, later identified as BELIVEAU, had two dogs with him and the dogs “had become involved in a confrontation” with GiGi.
According to police, BELIVEAU used his bike to attempt to separate the dogs, which caused GiGi’s guardian to fall. BELIVEAU then beat GiGi who suffered serious injuries.
BELIVEAU, of WOBURN turned himself into the Burlington Police Department on the afternoon of Monday, December 11, 2023. He was placed under arrest and charged with animal cruelty.
Before BELIVEAU was identified, a Facebook post published by Erin Sullivan recounted the incident and being a member of GiGi’s family, she was able to share the furbaby’s status. She wrote: “He broke her jaw, nose, and knocked some of her upper teeth out and the rest of her teeth were forced up inside of her jaw. GiGi was taken for emergency facial reconstructive surgery, and my father-in-law is shook up but ok.”
Another member of GiGi’s family, John Romano, has set up a GoFundMe campaign to help pay for GiGi’s medical care.
BELIVEAU was expected to be arraigned at Woburn District Court on the same day of his arrest. I was not able to find his court records and at this point I do not know the outcome of the hearing. I will post an update as I know more.
