The Davie County Sheriff’s Office announced the arrest of 26-year-old ANTHONY DREW CHURCH (pictured).
According to a press release by the sheriff’s office, on April 23, 2024, Animal Services received information that a puppy had been seen by an emergency vet in Winston-Salem for diarrhea and vomiting. According to the vet, a toxicology screen was positive for cocaine, THC, and [benzodiazepine].
The sheriff’s office tells me the puppy is a female Pitbull mix, she is 20 weeks old, and is doing well.
The following day, April 24, 2024, Davie County Sheriff Office’s Animal Services Division served a search warrant at a residence on 178 Wall Street in Mocksville.
The search led to the discovery and removal of twenty-six (26) dogs, “mostly nursing puppies and mothers”, stated the release.
CHURCH was arrested and charged with one felony count of cruelty to animals, one felony count of possession of cocaine, and one count of possession of drug paraphernalia.
He received an unsecured bond of $5,000.
The sheriff’s office further told me that CHURCH’s next court appearance at Davie County District court is set for “…….Monday of next week where the county will ask for the dogs to be turned over to us so they can be adopted.”
The investigation is ongoing.
