Ontario County authorities arrested 36-years-old DANIELLE C. AMBROS.

On January 13, 2024, while the Ontario County Sheriff’s Office was investigating AMBROS’ involvement in an unrelated incident, Ontario County Humane Society, Happy Tails Animal Shelter became involved to assist with an animal cruelty investigation that implicated AMBROS.

It came to light that while AMBROS’ grandmother was hospitalized, AMBROS was supposed to care for her grandmother’s parrot and dog at the lady’s residence on 5546 Mobile Road in Canandaigua.

In a media release, Ontario County Humane Society, Happy Tails Animal Shelter identified the dog as a 17-year-old Jack  Russell dog named Sampson, and the parrot as Squirt whose age is unknown.

The agency said that at some point, in November 2023, AMBROS stopped caring for Sampson and Squirt and both Voiceless Victims died on December 19, 2023. According to the media release, “both the dog and the parrot were deceased inside the residence in a decomposing state and they both appeared to have starved to death.”

Sampson and Squirt were buried in the backyard of the residence. Authorities exhumed them and took their bodies to the Cornell Animal Diagnostic Lab for necropsies.

AMBROS, of Rochester, was arrested on February 2, 2024, and charged with misdemeanor cruelty to an animal and misdemeanor failure to provide food and water to an impounded animal.

AMBROS was released on a ticket to appear at Canandaigua Town Court at a later date.

The Ontario County Sheriff’s Office tells me there isn’t a booking photograph for AMBROS because she “was issued an appearance ticket and directed to get processed at the Jail on her own.”

The Iredell County Sheriff’s Office announced the arrest of 46-years-old CLAUDE ANTHONY SANDERS JR (pictured).

In a media release, the sheriff’s office said that an investigation into SANDERS began after authorities identified him as “a key figure in the training, distributing, and arranging of dog fights in North Carolina, South Carolina, and other states.”

The investigation led to the execution of a search warrant on February 1, 2024, at a property on 196 Whitney Lane in Statesville.

Members of the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Unit and Criminal Investigations Division, along with members of the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office Emergency Response (SERT) Team found many dogs who were being kept in deplorable conditions.

According to the media release, “A large number of the dogs were kept in outside kennels, and most of these were covered in feces and urine. Several of the dogs had obvious scars and facial injuries from previous dog fights. There were also signs of forced breeding and various exercise equipment to develop strength and stamina, which aid in dog fighting.”

In addition to numerous items used to train dogs to fight, medication and treatment supplies for injured dogs, the search led to the discovery of marijuana and a handgun.

Investigators removed twenty-five (25) dogs from the hellish property.

SANDERS was placed under arrest and booked into the Iredell County Detention Center on twenty-four felony counts of cruelty to animals as well as Felony Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon, and Misdemeanor Possession of Marijuana.

SANDERS was then taken before Magistrate M. Nethken who issued a $200,000 secured bond.

Online records show SANDERS bonded out!

I have emailed the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office to inquire about the dogs and the good news is that “No dogs were found deceased on the property” and “No dogs have been euthanized.”

~ Update: February 17, 2024

On Friday, February 18, 2024, the Gautier Police Department arrested 36-years-old NICHOLE ANN ANDERSON (pictured), owner of Sandi’s Pet Grooming Too in Gautier.

According to WLOX, officers have identified five animal victims leading to charging ANDERSON with animal cruelty.

Additionally, police said that ANDERSON was running Sandi’s Pet Grooming Too without a license, so she was also charged with false pretense.

After warrants were issued for her arrest, ANDERSON turned herself in and at time of writing, online records show that she is being held into the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office without bond.

~ Original story:

The Gautier Police Department said in a press release that on the afternoon of Tuesday, January 30, 2024, officers responded to Sandi’s Pet Grooming Too following a Crime Stoppers tip “of alleged animal abuse, neglect, and illegal boarding” at the business.

Two days later, an investigation by Gautier Police Department’s Criminal Investigation Division and Animal Control Officer, Gautier Code Enforcement, and a representative of the Jackson County Animal Shelter required Sandi’s Pet Grooming Too “to cease all business operations due to multiple City code violations”, stated the release.

In an interview with WLOX, lead detective Lauren Etheridge explained: “There were wires, low-hanging wires, A/C ducts wide open. There was no heating. There was no insulation for the dogs. And just, animal feces everywhere.”

Detective Etheridge also said that over the last eight months, about five people claimed they never got their furbabies back. “They were told that their animal ran away, or another big one was that it was attacked by another dog”, she said.

According to police, one subject was placed under arrest on the scene “for unrelated outstanding warrants.”

On Sandi’s Pet Grooming Too’s Facebook page, a post published by Nikki Anderson read in part: “Good afternoon, I am Nikki Anderson sole owner of Sandi’s Pet Grooming Too in Gautier. I would like start of with saying thank for all the support I have received from my clients, community and staff. This experience/situation has to be addressed, so with that being said. This is the reason my shop had to close, if you will look and read the below the letter that we received from the fire department upon the investigation that took place on Thursday, February 1,2024. We are vigorously working to make repairs , so we may reopen to normal business hours. As for the investigation of alleged animal cruelty, In which I was not found guilty of, nor were any charges pressed against me, and I was released from the Gautier police departments custody with no pending charges. I have always strived to love each and every one of my fur babies that comes through my doors. In all transparency and honesty, yes they did arrest me for old traffic tickets from 2014 and released from me custody for those past tickets.  I will have to go to court and pay the ticket.”

Police said the incident is still under investigation and WLOX advised that “Customers are invited to share their testimony with the Gautier Police Department.”

If anyone has information about this incident, please contact the Criminal Investigations Division at (228) - 497 - 2486 or Mississippi Coast Crime Stoppers at 1 - 877 - 787 - 5898. Thank you!
