The Bexar County Sheriff’s Office arrested 36-year-old ALFREDO FARIAS JR (pictured).

According to the sheriff’s office, on August 5, 2024, deputies responded to the 500 block of Shagbark in South Bexar County to investigate an animal cruelty case.

Upon arrival, they found “a pony and a horse confined in a makeshift stable that was not suitable for livestock”, said the sheriff’s office.

As soon as the deputies unlocked the stable, the pony and the horse quickly ran to a grassy area showing obvious signs of hunger.

The deputies said that FARIAS admitted he was aware of the poor conditions but did not seek medical attention.

The pony and the horse were immediately removed and taken to a recovery facility for treatment and care.

FARIAS was placed under arrest and charged with cruelty to livestock animals.

The El Paso Police Department arrested 27-year-old DEVAN GALLEGOS (pictured).

According to police, on July 16, 2024, the Animal Cruelty Investigations Unit responded to a residence on the 1200 block of Airway Boulevard regarding a dog who had a chain collar embedded in his/her neck.

Investigators learned that GALLEGOS kept the dog tethered with the chain collar which progressively cut into the furvictim’s neck.

After the chain collar was removed, the furvictim was taken to be treated and then released to the Humane Society of El Paso.

GALLEGOS was arrested on August 23, 2024, and booked into the El Paso County Jail.

He was charged with cruelty to non-livestock animals: kill/poison/serious bodily injury, a third-degree felony. GALLEGOS was released on August 26, 2024, after posting a $10,000 bond.

The use of chains or heavy weights to restrain dogs was outlawed by the Safe Outdoor Dogs Act in 2022.

If I hear back from the El Paso PD with information about the dog, I will post an update.

An investigation conducted by the Manor Police Department resulted in the arrest of 31-year-old EYEISHA TASHAWN YOUNG (pictured).

YOUNG is accused of leaving nine helpless dogs in cages outside in the summer heat with no food or water causing the death of one of them.

Police said in a news release that two of the dogs “were left in animal sweaters, commonly used to protect animals from cold weather.”

When officials were at the scene rescuing the dogs, the temperature in Manor was 104 with a heat index of 108, according to the US National Weather Service Austin-San Antonio Texas.

YOUNG was arrested and transported to the Travis County Jail.

I emailed Manor Police Chief Ryan Phipps to inquire a little bit more about this case. I asked him why YOUNG had so many dogs and whether she was breeding them. To that, Chief Phipps answered: “There was no indication that this was a dog mill, but there was some indication that the female dogs had previously had puppies.”

With regard to the deceased furvictim, Chief Phipps said that the dog was a female Pitbull but her age and name are not known. A necropsy will be performed to determine the cause of her death.

The surviving dogs “are safe and in the process of being lawfully seized by Manor Police Detectives and will [be] placed in animal rescues.”

I took the liberty of naming the deceased furvictim Gardenia for the tribute image. Should her given name be made public, I will rectify it accordingly.
