Pennsylvania State Police Newport are investigating after a dog was found deceased in a backpack along with a large rock, in Shermans Creek.

On the early afternoon of Friday, October 6, 2023, Troopers responded to Shermans Creek in Carroll Township after a man who was walking his dog made the gruesome discovery and alerted the authorities.

When Troopers opened the backpack, they found a small black dog wrapped in a pillowcase, and a rock that was used to keep the Voiceless Victim at the bottom of the creek. Police said the dog appears to be a Cocker Spaniel.

In a news release, police described the rock as weighing over 16 pounds, “11 inches in [length] and 11 inches in height.”

Lackawanna County Humane Officer Laura Vitali was called in to help with the investigation and she explained to NewsWatch 16: “We can see by looking at the dog that there was definitely neglect. There’s severe matting on the dog. The fur appears in some areas to be white. It’s been yellowed by urine. It could be the extended amount of time it’s been out here, but it only appears to have been here for a week.”

A spokesperson for Archbald police tells me that a necropsy is being performed to determine the dog’s cause of death and the results are not in yet.

Police urge anyone with information about this heinous crime to come forward and contact Trooper Heller at PSP-Newport at (717) - 567- 3110. Thank you!

I took the liberty of naming the Voiceless Victim Dew, for the tribute image. Should his/her given name be made public, I will rectify it accordingly.

On Thursday, August 24, 2023, Allegheny County Police announced that animal cruelty charges, among others, have been filed against 44-years-old ALLISON LYN GAISER of Kittanning, Armstrong County, for abandoning her dog at Pittsburgh International Airport on August 4, 2023.

In a brief news release, police said, “Investigators determined Gaiser intentionally abandoned the dog near short-term parking before boarding a plane to a resort destination in Mexico.”

The furvictim, a male French Bulldog, was found by an Allegheny County police officer about 5:30 a.m. “sitting in the stroller outside the moving walkway enclosure next to glass exit doors in the short-term parking lot”, reports TRIB LIVE.

According to the news outlet, the dog was not restrained and under the stroller was a bowl with a bag of dog food inside, but there was no water.

The dog was microchipped and information identified the guardian as ALICIA GAISER with a couple of phone numbers. There were also a couple of emergency contacts but police’s attempts to contact them were unsuccessful.

Investigators were able to find GAISER’s Facebook account showing pictures of her with the dog she abandoned. After reviewing surveillance cameras, investigators learned that about 4:23 a.m. GAISER pushed the stroller with the dog in it as she entered the moving walkway from the long-term parking lot and then went to an airline ticket counter. After that, GAISER can be seen pushing the stroller with the dog inside back toward the moving walkway. Footage further showed GAISER heading to the spot where the dog was found and returning to the ticket counter without the furbaby.

GAISER returned from her trip on August 10, 2023, and police were at the airport waiting for her. According to police, GAISER admitted to leaving the dog. GAISER said she tried to take her dog with her but the airline wouldn’t allow him on the plane as he did not meet the criteria for an emotional support animal and did not have a proper kennel as required. GAISER went on to say that she made arrangements with her mother to pick up the dog from the airport and allowed police to review the text messages she exchanged with her mother. However, police said it was apparent that no immediate arrangement was made to pick up the dog.

Furthermore, GAISER’s mother told police that she only found out about her “grand doggie” being abandoned at the airport after her daughter’s ex-husband shared a news story about the dog being left at the airport.

Police said that the Voiceless Victim “is doing well and is still being fostered.”

GAISER is charged with “one misdemeanor count of animal cruelty, along with summary violations of animal cruelty, animal neglect and abandonment of animals by owner. These charges are being issued via summons”, said police.

GAISER’s preliminary hearing is slated to take place on October 16, 2023.

Animal Friends of Pittsburgh and the state dog warden assisted with the investigation.

~ Update: July 10, 2023

I was kindly provided with the furbabies’ pictures before their rescue and after their treatment.

As you can see, they were skin and bones when they were rescued from Hell!

Reese and Rusty have both been adopted. Reese, renamed Toby, is the one who was adopted by the husband of the veterinarian who treated him.

~ Original story:

35-years-old CHARLOTTE MARIE UPTON is facing felony animal cruelty charges after two dogs were found in poor condition in her home.

According to a criminal complaint obtained by Voice For Us, on March 11, 2022, Union Town Police responded to a home on 17 Maple Street, Dunbar Borough, Fayette County, for a welfare check on two dogs.

The responding officer reported that as he walked into the living room, he was hit with the unbearable smell of feces and urine.

In the kitchen, the officer found two dogs kept in two separate crates and dog feces caked inside them. The officer also noticed moisture on the bottom of the crates that appeared to be urine.

There was no food or water in the crates nor in the residence for the Voiceless Victims.

According to the complaint, “The dogs appeared to be full blooded boxers” brown and white in color and were identified as a 2-year-old named Reese, and a 4-year-old named Rusty.

Police said that Reese and Rusty were so skinny to the point that the officer could see their ribs and spines showing. According to the complaint, when the officer asked UPTON when the last time she gave them food or water was, she replied: “probably a few days.”

The officer further reported that he could wrap his hand around Reese’s stomach and spine.

UPTON agreed to surrender Reese and Rusty to the nonprofit Angels of Mercy Animal Rescue and Adoption Agency.

On the same day, Reese and Rusty were examined by veterinarians at MedVet Pittsburgh.

The furbabies were both emaciated and dehydrated.

Reese's body count score was 1/9 and Rusty's was 2/9.

Blood work showed elevated kidney and liver values. At this point vets would check the animal’s urine to determine if it was a case of dehydration or kidney disease, but Reese and Rusty “did not have any urine to sample.” The furvictims were hospitalized to start IV fluids.

The criminal complaint filed at Fayette County Magisterial District Court on June 30, 2023, accuses UPTON of intentionally or knowingly causing serious bodily injury to Reese and Rusty or the death of Reese and Rusty.

UPTON is also accused of not providing food or water to Reese and Rusty for an unknown amount of time causing severe dehydration and starvation.

Additionally, UPTON kept Reese and Rusty locked in a small cage with dog feces caked where the dogs had to stand on top of it due to it overflowing out of the side of the wire cage.

Finally, UPTON did not get Reese or Rusty medical attention when they were in extreme distress.

I contacted Angels of Mercy Animal Rescue and Adoption Agency to inquire about the well-being of the Voiceless Victims and I was told: “They both are doing great. They both were adopted. One of them was adopted by the vets husband.”

I also requested pictures of Reese and Rusty. Should I receive them I will add them to the article.
