GEORGE GOOCH ASH arrested for stabbing two innocent dogs to death

On January 29, 2025, the Bucks County District Attorney’s Office, the Newtown Township Police Department, and the Bucks County SPCA, held a press conference to announce charges filed against 40-year-old GEORGE GOOCH ASH (pictured).


ASH is accused of stabbing two family dogs to death. The furvictims are identified as a 9-year-old female Beagle-Collie mix named Shyla and a 7-year-old male Beagle-Lab mix named Blake.


On the afternoon of January 18, 2025, officers with the Newtown Township Police Department responded to a residence on 25 Essex Place in Newtown Township after ASH had called 911 to report that he had stabbed Shyla and Blake.


ASH told 911 dispatchers that after visiting his mother at a nursing home, he became angry and took his anger out on Shyla and Blake by stabbing them with kitchen knives. ASH added that he also stabbed himself a few times.


Upon arrival, officers made contact with ASH as he exited the home. He was wearing blood-stained clothing and was taken to the hospital for medical treatment.


An investigation determined that ASH began abusing Shyla and Blake earlier in the day “by kicking and hitting them”, stated the press release by the DA’s Office. At one point ASH stabbed Blake with a knife and “the blade broke off inside the dog.” ASH then grabbed a second knife and proceeded to stab both Shyla and Blake until the defenseless victims were deceased.


Officers executed a search warrant and found “bloodstains throughout the first floor of the home and several areas of blood pooling on the first floor, including inside of a dog bed.”


During the search, on the kitchen floor officers found a steak knife handle that had a large portion of the blade broken off.


Officers also found a second knife, described as a chef-style knife with an 8-inch blade, inside the kitchen sink. The knife was wrapped up in a bloody rag.


Both knives appeared to have dried blood on them.


On the kitchen counter, next to the sink, officers found balled up paper towels covered with blood.


Shyla and Blake were found lifeless lying next to each other near the kitchen. According to the press release, Shyla and Blake had “slashing and puncture-type injuries to their torso.”


The remains of both furvictims were sent to the University of Pennsylvania for necropsies and reports are pending.


On January 22, 2025, ASH was charged with two felony counts of aggravated cruelty to animals and two misdemeanor counts of cruelty to animals.


I checked the murderer’s court records and his arraignment date is not listed.


During the press conference, Bucks County District Attorney Jennifer Schorn said: “To say the defendant’s actions were inhumane is an understatement. They were sadistic.” She went on to say: “I commend the outstanding work done by the Newtown Township Police Department and the Bucks County SPCA, and I can assure you that this case will be prosecuted to the fullest extent.”

BRYAN JAMES THOMPSON arrested for depriving his injured service dog from medical care

On January 17, 2025, an officer with the Greensburg Police Department responded to Harry’s Bar to investigate a complaint regarding an injured dog.


Upon arrival, the officer learned from the complainant that a customer, identified as 56-year-old BRYAN JAMES THOMPSON (pictured), had his service dog with him who appeared to be injured.


The officer found the dog, a 3-year-old male Rottweiler named Leo, sitting next to the door.


According to the criminal complaint obtained by Voice For Us, the officer examined Leo and noticed a severe infection near his tail. When the officer asked THOMPSON about Leo’s infection, he said that Leo had his tail removed due to an injury.


The officer then invited THOMPSON to exit the bar and upon a further investigation, he reported: “it now appeared to me that feces was stuck in the dogs anus along with a green liquid oozing out” and added that Leo was also biting the area.


THOMPSON became “irritated” as the officer continued to ask him questions. THOMPSON kept saying over and over again that Leo was fine but the more he talked, the more it was apparent to the officer that he was not properly caring for Leo.


At one point THOMPSON told the officer that he had taken Leo to K. Vet Animal Care in Greensburg two days before, but did not remember the name of the vet.


Meanwhile, the officer requested assistance from officers of other units and when THOMPSON talked to those officers, he said that the vet told him Leo was fine “and just use antibiotic cream on the dogs anus.”


THOMPSON kept giving different statements and at some point, he told one of the officers that Leo was treated three weeks ago. One of the officers inspected Leo and believed that the poor souls was suffering from Rectal Prolapse (a condition where the rectum turns inside out and protrudes from the anus.)


At that point, THOMPSON was told to be at City Hall the next day with the vets notes but he failed to appear.


On January 19, 2025, officials then removed Leo from a residence on Tremont Avenue and THOMPSON was placed under arrest.


Leo was taken for evaluation, and it was determined that he had punctures all over his body, an abscess on his elbow, and a severe infection on his tail for an improper tail docking.

A veterinarian, whom THOMPSON claimed had treated Leo, told officers Leo had not been to the clinic.


THOMPSON was charged with one misdemeanor count of neglect of animals – vet care, one misdemeanor count of cruelty to animals, and one felony count of aggravated cruelty to animals – causing sbi or death.

He was remanded to the Westmoreland County Prison after failing to post $25,000 bail. Court records show that THOMPSON’s preliminary hearing is set to take place on January 30, 2025, at 10:00 a.m.


I have reached out to the Greensburg Police Department to inquire about Leo’s condition but part of the email I received from Chief Irvin said: “Additionally, I regret to inform you that we cannot provide booking photographs or details about the dog involved in this case, as this information is also part of the active investigation.”

DAN KARBOWSKY, found guilty of animal cruelty for neglecting his sick dog, gifted with probation

On January 3, 2025, in Westmoreland County Common Pleas Court, 55-year-old DAN KARBOWSKY pleaded guilty to animal cruelty charges after he intentionally withheld medical care for his 13-year-old male Chow mix named Echo.


The case dates back to March 2022, when Humane Officers with the animal rescue All But Furgotten were alerted to social media posts and were additionally contacted by witnesses regarding a dog, on Henry Street in Belle Vernon, who had a tumor hanging from his chest and matted fur on his back end.


On March 23, 2022, Humane Officers went to KARBOWSKY’s home at the aforementioned address and found Echo with a large tumor, several open wounds, and matted hair compressed with mud and feces.


KARBOWSKY told the Officers that in 2019, Echo had been diagnosed with cancer and a whipworm infection and added that he did not have the money to seek medical treatment for him.

Witnesses, however, stated that they came forward and offered KARBOWSKY financial help which KARBOWSKY refused.


Officers removed Echo and he thankfully received emergency medical care and tests on the tumor came back negative for cancer.


Hannah Novak of All But Furgotten told KDKA: “When we got him, he had pretty sizable open sores on his body. Along with the open sores, he had a pretty sizable mass that almost touched the ground. It was on his abdomen.”


Facing a felony count of aggravated cruelty to animals and one misdemeanor count of neglect, KARBOWSKY pleaded guilty to three lesser misdemeanor charges of animal cruelty on January 3, 2025, and Common Pleas Judge Christopher Feliciani gifted him with probation!


KARBOWSKY was sentenced to six years' probation and was ordered to pay more than $16,000 in medical restitution to All But Furgotten.


In August 2024, KARBOWSKY rejected a plea deal that called for him to accept a felony conviction and serve three to twenty-three months behind bars.


While KARBOWSKY received a six-year ban on “owning” animals, his wife was allowed by judge Feliciani to keep her three cats.


Ms. Novak told KDKA that the KARBOWSKYS are “subject to random house visits and welfare checks, so we can do random checks on those cats to make sure they are being cared for properly as well.”


Echo is thriving in a foster home!
