Thanks to an anonymous tip, or like Lee County Sheriff Carmine Marceno said, “the anonymous Hero that reported this death trap”, four innocent dogs are now safe.

On Friday, June 17, deputies responded to a home on Andora Street in Lehigh Acres to assist Lee County Domestic Animal Services. Officials found four dogs, ranging from 1 to 10 years old, “locked in cages enclosed in a locked shed”, said Sheriff Marceno during a press conference. One of the furbabies was pregnant. There was no ventilation and no food.

It was 94 degrees outside and the temperature inside the shed was 111 degrees.

Sheriff Marceno said that Lee County Domestic Animal Services responded twice to the same house last week, and gave 23-years-old DONTE JAMAAL SWEETING (pictured) a chance to improve the living conditions these furbabies were in, “but he didn’t take it seriously.”

Now, the sheriff’s office legal team will petition the court to keep the dogs from going back to SWEETING. The VOICELESS VICTIMS are currently in the care of the Lee County Domestic Animal Services.

SWEETING was booked into the Lee County Jail on four counts of tormenting or depriving an animal. Online arrest records show he was released a few hours later and a court date has been set for July 5, 2022, at 8:00 a.m.

On June 13, deputies with the Lee County Sheriff’s Office, responded to the RaceTrac on North Cleveland Avenue in North Fort Myers after receiving a report about a dog limping on a busy road.

Upon arrival, deputies found a dog named Paco with his legs bound together with tape and his muzzle taped shut.

Lee County Sheriff Carmine Marceno said during a press conference that with the assistance of a bystander deputies were able to secure Paco.

Investigators went door to door to gather information and evidence related to this investigation. They conducted interviews with all the people and businesses in the area.

The sheriff’s office said that through extensive investigating, the Animal Cruelty Task Force, North District Criminal Investigations Division, and Lee County Domestic Animal Services were able to identify 25-years-old EMERITO ROLON MARQUEZ JR. (pictured) as Paco’s guardian.

MARQUEZ was arrested on June 14, on his birthday, and booked in the Marceno Motel (Lee County Jail), on one count of felony animal cruelty.

Paco is currently at Domestic Animal Services where he is being evaluated and the good news is that he is expected to make a full recovery!

The sheriff’s office legal team has already started the process to remove Paco from MARQUEZ’s “possession”, said Sheriff Marceno.

At one point during the press conference Sheriff Marceno took a roll of duct tape and as he was holding it up, he said: “If I could, I’d duct tape his mouth shut and let the son of a bitch run through traffic with his legs bound.”

MARQUEZ is expected to be arraigned in Lee County Circuit Court on July 18, 2022, at 8:30 a.m.

On June 8, 2022, Lee County Sheriff Carmine Marceno held a press conference to announce the arrest of 53-years-old JAMES DAYTON RUSSELL (pictured).

On Sunday, June 5, the sheriff’s office Animal Cruelty Task Force Central District Detectives and members of the Lee County Domestic Animal Services responded to a home on Morse Plaza in Fort Myers.

On the scene, they found a lifeless 1-year-old Doberman Pincher named Sinister.

Detectives learned that Sinister was left in an unattended car for over an hour and a half. The windows were up, the engine was off.

RUSSELL had gone to run errands leaving Sinister with no water, food, or ventilation.

If you have looked at the pictures before reading the story, you are probably wondering why Sinister was found out of the vehicle, laying in a pile of trash.

That’s because when RUSSELL finally decided to check on his dog, he found him dead, so he cruelly and heartlessly removed him from the car and just dumped him in a near trash pile in the front yard!

As Sheriff Marceno said: “Not once attempting to render it.”

It’s estimated that the vehicle Sinister was left in reached temperature of 130 degrees.

Sheriff Marceno said at the time of his team’s arrival, Sinister’s core temperature was over 106 degrees.

It doesn’t take a genius to understand that this is an inhumane and disgusting thing to do to an animal”, said Sheriff Marceno.

RUSSELL was arrested on one count of aggravated animal cruelty and booked at the Lee County Jail.

Those of you who know Sheriff Marceno know that he refers to the county jail as the Marceno Motel and he rightfully said that RUSSELL has food, water, and air conditioning there, all things he deprived Sinister of!

Online arrest records show RUSSELL is no longer in custody.

His arraignment has been scheduled for July 11, 2022, at 8:30 a.m. in Lee County Circuit Court before Judge Margaret O. Steinbeck.
