Midland police have arrested 45-years-old WYKETA DANET POSEY and 64-years-old WILLIE JAMES KELLY (both pictured), following an investigation into a seriously injured German Shepherd.

The investigation was launched on July 28, 2022, when Midland police were notified by City employees at Animal Control that POSEY was trying to surrender her dog, a German Shepherd named Cash.

Animal Control told police that Cash looked “starved” and had a wounded leg. KMID/KPEJ reports: “…court records stated that part of the dog’s leg was missing and there was about three inches of exposed bone covered in teeth marks.” Animal Control further told officers that it looked like the furbaby had been injured for quite some time.

Responding officers spoke with POSEY who told them that Cash had been hit by a car on April 26, 2022. POSEY told police that immediately after the incident, she took Cash to a veterinarian where she was told that although Cash didn’t have any broken bones, he suffered nerve damage and would probably drag his front leg if it were not amputated. POSEY told officers that she could not afford to pay for Cash’s surgery, so she did not schedule one.

In June 2022, not only did Cash not undergo surgery, but he also developed wounds from dragging his leg.

According to POSEY, she then scheduled a surgery for the beginning of July 2022, but that did not take place and she moved to Odessa.

POSEY told police that after she moved to Odessa, KELLY, her ex-boyfriend, took Cash from her yard, brought him back to Midland, and kept him behind a locked gate.

POSEY said that since Cash was no longer in her care, she did not feel she still had to reschedule his surgery.

On July 28, 2022, KELLY contacted Animal Control and asked for someone to go and pick up Cash. KMID/KPEJ reports that a short time later, POSEY “arrived at Animal Control with Cash in tow.”

POSEY and KELLY denied responsibility for Cash’s injuries and blamed each other for the lack of his care.

While being interviewed by investigators, POSEY repeated that she was not able to take Cash for surgery because KELLY had taken him. Investigators told her that evidence they gathered showed she did have access to the dog about 19 days before his scheduled appointment.

Investigators concluded that POSEY had more than enough time between the end of April and the beginning of July to get help for Cash before KELLY locked him behind a gate.

In view of these findings, detectives requested warrants to arrest both POSEY and KELLY.

Detectives also said that during the course of their investigation, they found a video posted by POSEY in August of 2020, that showed her being uncooperative with animal control officers, and saying that she didn’t care about the German Shepherd and only cared about her Pitbull.

KELLY was placed under arrest on October 5, 2022, and POSEY was arrested the following day. The duo have both been charged with animal cruelty.

KMID/KPEJ reports that the affidavit did not state whether or not Cash survived his injuries so I have emailed Midland Police and their PIO told me: “I will inquire if we have specific information on Cash’s health.” As usual, if I get a response, I will post an update.

On Saturday, September 2, 2022, Caldwell County Animal Care Enforcement received a call about an injured dog in the area of Abington Road and Valley View Circle.

Upon arrival, the officer found the dog off the roadway. According to a press release by the Caldwell County Sheriff’s Office, the furbaby “suffered a severe injury and was taken to an emergency vet to receive care. After emergency surgery, the dog is expected to make a full recovery.”

The Caldwell County Animal Care Enforcement believed the dog was intentionally injured and left to die on the side of the road, so authorities reached out to the public for information and the nonprofit Piedmont Animal Rescue – PAR offered a reward of $3,500.

The sheriff’s office announced that an arrest has been made in this case. 21-years-old BETHANY MARIE BEAVER (pictured), is the heartless and soulless individual responsible for abandoning her dog.

According to the sheriff’s office, on September 7, 2022, Caldwell County Animal Care Enforcement Officers received a tip which was investigated and that successfully led to BEAVER’s arrest. The female was located with assistance from the Lenoir Police Department and the North Carolina Highway Patrol.

BEAVER was transported to the Caldwell County Magistrate’s Office, where she received a $15,000 bond. She was then taken to the Caldwell County Detention Facility, where she will be held until she can make bond.

Online arrest records show that BEAVER is still in custody. According to court records, she has a morning court appearance scheduled for September 29, 2022.

The VOICELESS VICTIM is in the care of Piedmont Animal Rescue.

On the late evening of Tuesday, August 30, 2022, a deputy with the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office conducted a traffic stop on a stolen U-Haul truck in the 3000 block of College Park in The Woodlands.

According to a press release by the sheriff’s office, inside the truck, the deputy discovered multiple injured and malnourished dogs. One of them had a horrific injury with exposed flesh on most of his/her back consistent with a chemical burn. Tennessee News identified the burnt dog as Dolo (pictured).

The poor dogs were “in kennels filled with their own urine and feces with no food or water.”

The occupants of the truck were identified as 26-years-old TIARA JOSIANNA ALSAID and 57-years-old ANTHONY GLENN JOHNSON (both pictured), from Houston.

Following an investigation, the deputy learned that the Houston Police Department has multiple cases involving ALSAID “for running a business that claims to transport dogs cross-country, but instead sells them, never delivering the dogs to their correct destinations”, stated the release.

The sheriff’s office said that the dogs found in the truck “were stolen and worth many thousands of dollars.”

HPD Detectives, the Director of the Montgomery County Animal Shelter, and a Montgomery County Constable Precinct 2 Cruelty to Animals Investigator arrived on scene to assist in the investigation.

Thankfully, the dogs were seized until their guardians could be located, and eventually reunited.

ALSAID was placed under arrest for multiple offenses including animal cruelty and theft in addition to multiple drug warrants out of various counties.

JOHNSON was arrested for possession of marijuana but animal cruelty charges could be forthcoming.
