JULIA SZEBEHELY arrested - A total of sixty dead animals were removed from a Galveston County home

The Galveston County Sheriff’s Office announced the arrest of 63-year-old JULIA SZEBEHELY (pictured).

 

On September 7, 2024, the sheriff’s office responded to her property in the 800 block of 29th Street in San Leon to assist the Galveston County Health District Animal Services with an animal cruelty investigation after numerous dead cats were found of the property.

 

Deputies found the property in deplorable condition and at the rear, they discovered an emaciated horse. SZEBEHELY was on site when officials were there.

 

The Houston SPCA also responded to the scene to assist with the overall investigation and removed the emaciated horse, four live cats, and sixteen cat carcasses.

 

Ten days later, the Sheriff's Office Animal Cruelty Investigator conducted a follow-up investigation resulting in the execution of a search warrant. The search led to the discovery of forty-two animal carcasses bringing the total of dead animals removed from the property to sixty.

 

The Galveston County Sheriff’s Office said in a press release that the majority of the deceased animals “were located inside locked kennels, crates, and traps.”

 

After presenting the case to the Galveston County District Attorney’s Office, ten counts of cruelty to non-livestock animals and one count of cruelty to a livestock animal were accepted on SZEBEHELY. She was arrested and booked into the Galveston County Jail on a $16,500 bond. Online records show she was released after posting it.

LAURA LYNN REED arrested after fifteen cats were found dead in her freezer

- Maryland, USA -

 

The St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office arrested 50-year-old LAURA LYNN REED (pictured).

 

An investigation into REED was launched on August 21, 2024, after deputies along with Animal Control received an anonymous tip regarding severe animal neglect at REED’s home on 27180 Morganza Turner Road in Mechanicsville.

 

At REED’s home, authorities found twenty-six (26) living animals, cats and dogs, amidst overwhelming filth.

According to the report, the floors were covered in urine and feces. Many of the animals were found in poor health showing signs of skin infections, untreated fur conditions, and malnutrition.

 

Sadly, officers also discovered fifteen (15) dead cats. Some of them were found rotting inside a freezer.

Animal Control Officer Welch reported that these cats had been wrapped in pillowcases and covered in feces, with some showing signs of trauma from possible attacks by other animals.

 

According to officials, there were no visible food or water bowls for the poor animals.

 

Officers determined that an urgent veterinary response was required due to the animals’ exposure to extreme neglect.

 

After examining all the animals, Dr. Tammy Colson-Dorsch, a volunteer veterinarian for the St. Mary’s County Animal Shelter, determined that they all required immediate medical attention.

 

St. Mary’s County Emergency Services Hazmat deemed the residence unsafe due to high ammonia levels, accumulated from animal waste.

 

REED is facing fifteen counts of animal cruelty. She is scheduled to appear in St. Mary’s County District Court on December 3, 2024.

IRENE LIMA and CHAD KABECZ arrested for torturing and murdering innocent cats and posting videos

- Canada -

 

In August 2024, the Winnipeg Police Service received a report from the Office of the Provincial Veterinarian Animal Welfare regarding pictures and videos depicting animals being tortured and killed and that were being posted on the dark web.

 

The animal torture content was posted online between May and August.

 

Public Information Officer Constable Stephen Spencer said during a press conference that approximately ten cats were believed to be involved and some of them “were acquired from social media selling platforms.”

 

Members of the East District Community Support Team launched an investigation that led to the execution of a search warrant at a home in the Lord Roberts area of south Winnipeg.

 

Investigators uncovered and seized evidence of animal cruelty. They located ten cats and a rabbit, and two suspects were arrested. They said no animals were found alive.

 

According to a press release by the Winnipeg Police Service, 55-year-old IRENE LIMA and 40-year-old CHAD KABECZ, both of Winnipeg, were arrested and remain in custody.

 

LIMA and KABECZ were charged with:

 

• Killing or Injuring Animals

• Causing unnecessary suffering to an animal

• Fail to provide adequate medical attention for an animal when it is wounded or ill

• Inflict upon an animal acute suffering, serious injury or harm, or extreme anxiety or distress that significantly impairs its health or well-being

 

Constable Spencer said the pair were known to police but declined to elaborate on that. He did not have information on how LIMA and KABECZ knew each other.

 

He also said: “Investigators told me that this is the worst case that they’ve dealt with — a very horrible case involving animal cruelty,” and added: “I can say anecdotally when individuals are believed to be involved in heinous crimes against helpless animals, it often leads to escalating violent behavior towards humans, so we take that very seriously.”

 

Police in Winnipeg have also been investigating cases of cats being found dead in the Point Douglas area, but Constable Spencer said investigators do not believe the cases are related at this time.
