~ Update: April 30, 2023

I have reached out to the Troy Police Department and asked why Kit was not removed from the home.

A spokesperson kindly got back to me and explained that “Kit’s guardian does not reside with the defendant, and the defendant has no other access to Kit. Kit’s home & care is otherwise completely appropriate and we trust he is being well-cared for.”

On a separate note, as I was searching for WIDO’s background, I came across a previous conviction of June 10, 2008, for rape. His identity was confirmed through my correspondence with the Troy Police Department.

~ Original story:

Following a domestic violence investigation, detectives with the Troy Police Domestic Violence Unit arrested 36-years-old PRESTON KYLE WIDO, of Latham for animal cruelty.

In a news release, police allege that WIDO “caused several, and significant, injuries to a two-month-old kitten namedKit’.”

Police said the incident happened at a residence in Lansingburgh, Rensselaer County.

Kit was taken to a veterinarian by his guardian and it was determined that the furbaby suffered “a concussion, dislocated jaw, fractured pelvis, and part of his right ear had been cut with a sharp instrument.”

WIDO is not behind bars and I hope and pray that he will not hurt the furbaby again because according to police, Kit “is now recovering with his owner at home.”

WIDO was arrested on the evening of April 27, 2023, for one count of Aggravated Cruelty to an Animal and released on an appearance ticket.

Online court records show that on April 28, 2023, WIDO appeared at Troy City Court for his arraignment before Judge Christopher T. Maier and pleaded not guilty.

WIDO is scheduled to be back in court on Friday, May 5, 2023, at 8:30 a.m.

The Columbia Police Department (CPD) said that a concerned citizen saw a dog wandering the area of Corola Avenue near North Main Street with a collar embedded in his neck and called 9-1-1 for help.

Following the request for help, City of Columbia Animal Control officers responded to the area and found the dog, a Cane Corso named Banx. Animal Control then called in CPD for assistance and Banx was immediately taken to a veterinarian.

As stated in a press release by CPD, “In a 17-page report of exam findings, Banxsuffered unnecessary pain and suffering’.” The veterinarian further determined that Banx was “emaciated” weighing 88 pounds. Banx’s body’s condition scored 2 out of 9 on the Purina Body Condition Scale. The veterinarian reported that Banx “had a flea and hookworm infestation, anemia, worn teeth, plus, significant scarring and inflammation of the neck due to the embedded collar,” said police. Banx required surgery to remove the collar and to treat the injuries on his neck. The good news is that he is on the mend while his medical care continues.

The Columbia Police Department said that 32-years-old AIREAL TANAI AMES (pictured), is accused of failing to properly care for Banx.

AMES turned herself in to Columbia Police Department (CPD) officers on the morning of Wednesday, April 26, 2023. She is charged with Felony Ill Treatment of Animals.

AMES was released from the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center after posting a meager $1,000 bond.

Online court records show that AMES is due back in Columbia Municipal Court on May 26, 2023.

Please note that according to the arrest report obtained by Voice For Us, the arrestee’s name is SARA I. TREUSDELL.

However, the press release by the Steuben County Sheriff’s Office and online sources refer to her as SARA TRUESDELL.

Through a press release, Steuben County Sheriff Jim Allard announced that on April 25, 2023, deputies arrested 38-years-old SARA IRENE TREUSDELL of Church Street, Woodhull.

According to the release, the arrest follows an investigation into reports of “dogs running at large and in need of sustenance and care”.

Sheriff Jim Allard tells me that the investigation was launched after the Dog Control Officer for the Town of Woodhull received a complaint from a local resident regarding two dogs who were running loose. At the time, Dog Control Officer took the dogs into custody and filed a complaint with Law Enforcement due to the physical condition of one of the Voiceless Victims.

Sheriff Jim Allard further told me that “Both dogs were named by vet hospital staff as their given names were unknown.”

One of the two furbabies is a brown/tan male Pitbull mix who was named Clyde, and the other furbaby is a black female Rottweiler mix who was named Bonnie.

Clyde was in poor physical condition.

I was relieved and overjoyed to learn that both Bonnie and Clyde “have been under the care of a licensed veterinarian since the beginning of the investigation. They are both doing very well and have made full recoveries.”

The Steuben County Sheriff’s Office alleges that TREUSDELL was not providing her dogs with adequate food or care.

TREUSDELL is charged with Torturing/Not Feeding a Domestic Animal.

She was released on an Appearance Ticket to return to Woodhull Town Court at a later date.

I want to echo Sheriff Allard’s appeal: “Remember, reporting animal cruelty is everyone’s business. If you know of a domestic animal that is being maltreated and in need of aid, please report it to your local law enforcement or by calling 911.”

This is an open investigation and no additional information could be disclosed at this time.
