On the evening of October 16, 2024, Sheriff’s North Patrol Deputies responded to an apartment complex in the 4000 block of Manzanita Avenue in Carmichael after a resident reported finding a dog in a trash can with something tied around his/her neck.

The reporting party also stated that the dog had a laceration under his/her throat but was still alive.

Upon arrival, Deputies immediately contacted Sacramento County Animal Control.

They then learned from the reporting party that the dog’s guardian lived in the complex and they were able to identify the subject as 41-year-old DANIELLE JEAN KILLIAN (pictured).

According to the press release by the Sacramento County Sheriff's Office, KILLIAN “lived alone with two dogs and one cat.”

KILLIAN said she felt her life would be easier if she only had to care for one dog and she slashed one of the two dogs’ throat. The incident happened on October 14, 2024. The following day, while the furvictim was still alive, KILLIAN put him/her in a shopping bag and disposed of him/her in the garbage bin at her apartment complex.

Animal Control took the injured dog for medical treatment and took custody of the other dog.

Sheriff’s Property Crimes Detectives also responded to the scene and executed a search warrant at KILLIAN’s apartment, “leading to the discovery of the knife presumably used in this incident”, stated the release.

The sheriff's office said that Detectives could not find the cat “and fear other animals she may have cared for in the past may have suffered abuse, as she told Detectives she moved around regularly, as often as once a year.”

KILLIAN was placed under arrest, transported to the Sacramento County Main Jail, and booked on animal cruelty charges. She was granted release on her own recognizance by the courts and has since been released from custody.

Anyone with information about this incident or others involving KILLIAN is asked to contact the sheriff's office at (916) - 874 - 5115. Thank you!

I emailed the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office to inquire about all of the Voiceless Victims. If I get a response, I will post an update.

The Riverside County Department of Animal Services arrested 58-year-old RAFAEL LEAL.

According to the press release by the agency that was provided to Voice For Us, they received a complaint “from a fellow county employee at code enforcement” who saw underweight horses at the property in the 5000 block of Esperanza Avenue in Cabazon near Almond Street, less than a mile south of Interstate 10.

On July 23, 2024, Animal Services responded to the property to investigate.

Officials said that all of the horses were underweight with three of them severely emaciated. Their ribs, hip point, and spines were showing. The poor souls did not have any water and temperatures climbed above 100 degrees.

When Animal Services questioned LEAL about the horses, he said that he was going through tough times so the agency offered to find a rescue organization to help out but LEAL said he would think about it.

On July 25, 2024, Animal Services returned to the property and realized that the horses’ conditions remained unchanged so they asked LEAL to surrender the horses.

LEAL not only did not do anything to improve the horses’ conditions, but also refused to be helped rehoming the emaciated horses.

That inevitably led the Riverside County Department of Animal Services to serve a search warrant and remove the animals from the property. Among the rescued animals were forty-five birds, mostly hens and roosters, four dogs, three mares, six puppies, and two stallions.

Officials said they could not see any food or water for the birds.

All of the Voiceless Victims were taken to the Western Riverside County Animal Shelter in Jurupa Valley for veterinary care.

LEAL was arrested on August 14, 2024, and at the time of writing, records show that he is being held in the Larry D. Smith Correctional Facility on felony animal cruelty charges. Records also show that LEAL’s court date is set for August 16, 2024, at 8:00 a.m.

The investigation will be turned over to the Riverside County District Attorney’s Office for review.

Animal Services tell me that no animals were found deceased on the property and none of the rescued ones were euthanized.

On July 3, 2024, just before sunset, two hikers had been passing by a ravine in Malibu Creek Canyon, some 250 feet down the side of the road, when they discovered an abandoned dog.

The furvictim, a male German Shepherd now named Argon and estimated to be about 7 years old, was found with zip ties around his mouth and neck.

The hikers alerted Lost Hills Sheriff's Station and County of Los Angeles Department of Animal Care and Control and then managed to remove the zip tie from Argon’s mouth before officials arrived.

When officials responded to the scene, they helped the hikers bring Argon to safety.

In Defense Of Animals reports that Argon was first taken to the Palmdale Animal Care Center to be treated and then to the Agoura Animal Care Center.

According to In Defense Of Animals, “Veterinarians found he had a lot of inflammation, and warts and skin tags on his legs, stomach and groin. It was suspected he was exposed to poison oak, and that he may be suffering from lymphoma.”

On July 11, 2024, Argon was placed in the care of German Shepherd Rescue of Orange County and a week later the rescue posted an update on their Facebook page.

Part of the post read: “A lot has happened since Argon found his way to GSROC.  He remains at our vet for ongoing care, receiving treatment to reduce the edema (swelling) around all of his joints.  His lymph notes in his neck are huge--the size of ping-pong balls.  He is still very, very thin, but eating very well--many small meals each day to gradually put weight on him.  The official diagnosis is lymphoma, but we are awaiting some more sophisticated test results to determine what level the cancer has reached and whether it is B or T cell treatment required.”

As reported by In Defense Of Animals, Maria Dales, Founder and Director of German Shepherd Rescue of Orange County said in a statement: “Argon is an incredible mixture of strength and softness. He survived abandonment and abuse, yet miraculously, he remains a gentle soul. He seems to sense that we are all here to help him and his trust level is growing. He doesn't appear to be as introverted as he was when he arrived. He will see a veterinary oncologist next week so we can determine the next steps of his treatment plan.

Someone, somewhere knows who this dog belonged to and can help authorities apprehend the person who harmed this beautiful dog. We are hoping that someone in the public will have the courage and compassion to get this cruel abuser off the streets.”

The reward offered for information leading to the arrest of the despicable individual(s) is now $25,000.

We’ve been overwhelmed by the public response. So many people are concerned about Argon and want to see his abuser held accountable. Someone knows this dog and the person who hurt him. We hope this huge reward offer encourages that person to step forward and share their tip with us so we can get justice for Argon”, said Fleur Dawes, Communications Director at In Defense of Animals.

County of Los Angeles Department of Animal Care and Control said if you have credible info related to Argon’s case, please call (562) - 940 - 6898. Thank you!

I want to say to that someone who knows who abandoned Argon, that if you don’t come forward and speak up, you are just as guilty!
