The Pembroke Pines Police Department arrested 28-years-old DANIEL LAMONT GRAY JR. (pictured) “after investigating officers determined that he caused malicious and intentional harm to his dog, Jack, which resulted in the dog’s death”, said the Department in a press release.

According to Local 10 News, GRAY is an ex-NFL player and is currently a Broward County Public School teacher. His name is listed online as a teacher at Pine Ridge Educational Center.

Police said that on August 10, 2022, witnesses saw GRAY “punching, kicking, and slamming” Jack, an 8-month-old American Pitbull terrier, “into the ground outside of The Avant apartment complex” in the 12000 Block of SW 15th Street.

As indicated in the release, approximately two hours after the incident, one of the witnesses found Jack’s lifeless body to the rear of a nearby building.

Local 10 News added that Jack was covered in blood and witnesses placed a sheet and bags on him before calling the police.

When officers responded to the scene, according to Local 10 News, witnesses told them that GRAY went crazy on the furbaby outside his unit, punching him, kicking him, swinging him by his legs, and body slamming him to the ground. They also said that as Jack was yelping and crying in pain, GRAY yelled to the DEFENSELESS VICTIM: “You see how strong I am? This is why I keep you locked up.” GRAY then dragged the furbaby away and dropped him nearby.

Local 10 News reports that responding officers called Dr. Elizabeth Rosainz who is a veterinarian at LeadER Animal Hospital before taking Jack to her for assessment.

Dr. Rosainz told Local News 10: “I have seen some of these cases, but this is the worst I have ever seen.” Dr. Rosainz explained: “Externally, there was so much blood from the oral cavity, in the nasal cavity, that you can see that he had been hit in the face, somehow. He had a puncture wound on top of the head and then when we took X-rays we could see that he had rib fractures and he had collapsed lung.”

As reported by Local News 10, it’s unclear how Jack got a puncture wound to his head, but state officials are examining the body.

From a thorough investigation it emerged that GRAY “willfully caused significant injuries to his dog, Jack, which directly led to his death”, said police.

The filthy murderer was arrested on August 11, 2022, and charged with felony aggravated animal cruelty. He was transported to BSO Main Jail for processing.

After his arrest, GRAY went before a judge and his lawyers had the nerve to ask for his bond to be reduced so that their client could attend the first day of school on Tuesday, August 16, 2022.

The judge told GRAY he was not to go back to work until further notice.

Broward County’s school system told Local 10 News that GRAY he will be RELOCATED to an off-school site as the investigation continues. Not fired, relocated!

DANIEL LAMONT GRAY JR., bragging about your strength with a dog unable to fight back says a lot about what you are made of and what you are, EXCREMENT!!!!

Show me how you can defend yourself with your hands and legs tied up while someone does to you what you did to Jack! Is that strength?

~ Update: July 9, 2022

I have emailed reporter Jeff Weinsier with Local 10 and addressed my concern about the discrepancy between Ms. Benford’s statement about how she discovered the dog, and what the video published by Local 10 shows.

~ Original story:

Hollywood Police are investigating after a deceased dog was discovered with his/her head and legs stuffed in a pillowcase.

The lady who made the horrific discovery, Ms. Norma Benford, posted the heartbreaking pictures and video on Facebook and alerted the authorities.

While the initial reactions from devastated and outraged people understandably called the incident an act of animal cruelty, police are saying the dog may have died of natural causes, or he/she could have been sick and this may a case of illegal dumping.

Ms. Benford found the furbaby on Independence Day on a canal bank off Johnson Street by Stanley Goldman Memorial Park.

When she noticed the body of the dog, she rushed over to the spot.

She told Local 10: “I was sitting here and I looked over and I said, ‘Geez, that looks like a body.’ I came across this horrible scene. He looked like he was well taken care of. He wasn’t skinny, no ribs (showing). How could someone do that?

Ms. Benford said police remained on the scene for a few hours and an investigator removed the pillowcase from the dog’s head.

She further told Local 10: “By his head they found a collar and they found a toy, a dog toy.”

The remains of the VOICELESS VICTIM were taken to Hollywood Animal Hospital for a necropsy.

If you have any information about this case, please, call the Hollywood Police Department at (954) - 967- 4636. Thank you!

Something about this case puzzles me and I want to share it with you. According to Ms. Benford, she saw from across the canal what appeared to be a body and when she rushed over, she found a dog with a pillowcase on his/her head, and a pillowcase on the dog’s legs. However, the video published by Local 10, shows reporter Jeff Weinsier interviewing Ms. Benford and when she recounts the events while pointing at the spot, a dog can be seen in the video laying without pillowcases.

On the evening of Monday, May 30, authorities arrested 32-years-old JHNELLE AMIEL (pictured) for tormenting her dog.

NBC Miami reports that the incident happened at Happy Tails Dog Park at Seminole Park located at 6500 SW 16th Street, Plantation.

A woman who was at the park, filmed AMIEL while she was repeatedly pushing her dog’s head into the ground as the helpless furbaby cried and whimpered.

She thankfully did the right thing and called 911.

According to NBC Miami, when an officer responded to the scene, the witness showed him the videos of AMIEL abusing the dog.

The officer reported that AMIEL was seen forcing the dog to lie down on the ground. The dog was on a short leash tied to a chair and his/her panting mouth was occasionally held closed by AMIEL’s grip.

The responding officer then questioned AMIEL about the incident and said she was training the dog.

The officer, however, determined “the dog appeared to be tormented and suffering and was not behaving in a way that required discipline”, reports NBC Miami.

The officer asked AMIEL what her name was and she identified herself as Rebeca Thomas from Georgia.

The officer ran a record check which revealed otherwise.

The officer identified JHNELLE AMIEL listed at a Plantation address.

Before AMIEL was taking into custody, she called her husband who showed up and the park and as reported by NBC Miami, he took the dog home!

According to NBC Miami, the husband “appeared surprised by what allegedly happened and looked disappointed with his wife when told why she was being arrested.”

AMIEL was booked into the Broward County Jail on charges of animal abuse and giving a false identity to police.

Online records show she was released after posting bond!

It’s unclear who is investigating the case so I have emailed both the Broward County Sheriff's Office and the Plantation Police Department.

I inquired about whether the VOICELESS VICTIM was removed from AMIEL.

If I get a response, I will post an update.
