The Brevard County Sheriff’s Office arrested 57-years-old LITA PATRICIA ROGERS (pictured), who claims to be a veterinarian technician.

ROGERS was arrested for animal cruelty on Monday, May 22, 2023, following an investigation that was launched on May 1, 2023. However, as Sheriff Wayne Ivey said in a video posted on the sheriff's office Facebook page, the abuse of two innocent animals began much earlier.

ROGERS had been living at a home on Olympic Drive in Cocoa with her boyfriend until he passed away in August 2022. After the boyfriend’s death, ROGERS had problems with his kids who wanted the house back so she moved out in March 2023, leaving behind a dog and a pig. The arrest affidavit identified the dog as Sophie and the pig as Liliana “Lilly”.

When deputies responded to the home, Sophie was already deceased and as reported by the responding officer, she was “melted into the ground.” Sophie was alive abut “emaciated.”

According to the affidavit, Sophie's remains were taken to Brevard County Sheriff's Office South Animal Care Center (SACC) and were placed in a refrigerator.

Liliana was removed from the home and was also taken to SACC “where she was temporarily secured in the livestock barn at this same facility.” Liliana was also examined by veterinary staff.

Liliana was later taken to Midway Veterinary Hospital in Pierce and turned over to Dr. Adams for advanced medical care. A few days later, Liliana was returned to SACC to continue her treatment under Dr. Boyd's care.

Sheriff Ivey said that ROGERS told deputies the animals were not her responsibility. However, according to the sheriff, ROGERS went back to the home on several occasions to check on her car. “Her freaking car. Are you kidding me?”, said the sheriff.

ROGERS was aware that Sophie and Liliana were both starving to death!

Court records show that ROGERS faces two misdemeanor counts of animal abandonment, two misdemeanor counts of unlawful confinement, and two felony counts of aggravated animal cruelty.

ROGERS was released from the Brevard County Jail after posting a $24,000 bond.

On the morning of Tuesday, April 11, 2023, a citizen called the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office Animal Enforcement Team to report some dogs in distress at a house on 3762 Brockington Circle in Cocoa.

Officer Maldonado and Officer Kaufman responded to the scene to investigate. They were unable to make contact with anybody at the residence, but the reporting party allowed them into their property from which they could see the dogs. Officers saw two deceased dogs, who were tied up and extremely thin. A third dog tethered in the same yard was barely alive. Officers were able to identify him as Ace through a database maintained by Shelter Buddy.

Animal Cruelty Investigators were immediately called in.

A warrant was obtained for the arrest of 38-years-old ROBERT MCGREGOR SWINDOLL (pictured).

Brevard County Sheriff Ivey said the dogs were not SWINDOLL’s and someone who was not allowed on the property anymore was taking dog food over. Despite that, SWINDOLL allowed two dogs to starve to death.

An affidavit obtained through public records identifies the dogs’ guardian as Lashawnda Spencer who passed away in December 2022. The affidavit goes on to identify Levetirus Cole as the person who was bringing food to the dogs and he was in a relationship with Ms. Spencer when she was alive.

SWINDOLL was booked into the Brevard County Jail on three felony counts of animal cruelty and three misdemeanor counts of confinement without food and water.

SWINDOLL is being held on a $7,500 bond.

According to court records, SWINDOLL’s next court appearance is set for May 11, 2023, at 8:30 a.m.

As Sheriff Ivey said, while in jail, SWINDOLL will be fed, will be given water, and will be taken care of. By law, SWINDOLL cannot be treated the way he treated those Voiceless Victims.

Brevard County Sheriff Wayne Ivey announced the arrest of 35-years-old JOHN CLAYTON OSTEEN (pictured) for animal cruelty among other charges.

On Monday, May 8, 2023, during his latest edition of MAFO (Mess Around and Find Out), Sheriff Ivey said: “Being a criminal is bad enough, but brutalizing a small kitten for enjoyment, man that makes you a giant bagshit.”

Sheriff Ivey said that his agents had OSTEEN under surveillance as they were trying to arrest him on a warrant for unrelated crimes he had committed a week earlier.

On Monday morning, when the sheriff’s office agents went to arrest OSTEEN, one of them saw OSTEEN who came out of the house with “a small kitten on a leash.” According to the sheriff, OSTEEN started swinging the leash around with the tiny furbaby on it. OSTEEN then placed the kitten in a carrier and proceeded to spray water into the carrier “full force”.

As soon as one of the deputies made a move to intervene, OSTEEN “ran once again ‘cause he’s a big coward. He’s tough when it comes to dealing with a kitten, but when it comes to deal with law enforcement officers about put his but in jail, he runs”, rightfully said Sheriff Ivey.

OSTEEN ran to a friend’s house but deputies were able to track him down.

The sheriff’s office Animal Services Team quickly responded and rescued three kittens.

OSTEEN was booked into the Brevard County Jail on one felony count of animal cruelty as well as fleeing and eluding, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, possession of ammunition by a convicted felon, reckless driving, driving while license revoked, and failure to register a motor vehicle.

OSTEEN is currently being held with no bond. “That’s exactly where he belongs. I wish I could put him on a leash and swirl him around like he did the cat”, said Sheriff Ivey and I DO AGREE!

OSTEEN’s initial court appearance is set for May 9, 2023, at 1:15 p.m. before Judge Kimberly Musselman.

As Sheriff Ivey said: “If you can harm an animal, especially a small animal like that, you have the evilness in you to hurt a human.”
