The Waynesboro Police Department announced the arrest of 31-year-old REUBEN MICHAEL SILVER (pictured).

Police said in a press release that on the early morning of November 9, 2024, officers responded to the 1500 block of C Street after receiving reports about 10-15 dogs running at large in the area.

Officers were able to determine that the dogs were linked to a residence in the 1500 block of Third Street and later on the same morning executed a search warrant.

From the residence, officers removed fourteen dogs of various breeds and took them “to a temporary holding facility, where they received necessary medical treatment”, stated the release.

In connection with this case, officers arrested SILVER and booked him into the Middle River Regional Jail.

He was charged with fourteen misdemeanor counts of cruelty to animals, fourteen misdemeanor counts of no city dog license, fourteen misdemeanor counts of vaccination violations, fourteen misdemeanor counts of control and restraint of dogs, and fourteen misdemeanor counts of sanitation of dog pens.

SILVER was released after posting bond.

I reached out to the Waynesboro Police Department to request additional information about the Voiceless Victims and in an email Captain Jamie Dunn responded: “The information that was provided in the media release is all of the information that is being release[d] at this time since this case has not been adjudicated in court. We are with holding certain information regarding this case so that we do not provide to many details to potential deprive Mr. Silver of a right to a fair trial or an impartial adjudication.”

On October 30, 2024, an officer with the San Antonio Police Department responded to an apartment on 327 West Sunset Road after receiving a report of animal cruelty.

The officer met with the girlfriend of 21-year-old RAYMOND JULES BOMHACK IV (pictured).

The woman told the officer that while she was at work, she spoke with BOMHACK and he told her that he attempted to cuddle Wolfie, one of her two cats, and Wolfie “became agitated” and scratched him.

According to the report obtained by Voice For Us, BOMHACK told his girlfriend that he hit Wolfie in the head causing a red spot in one of his eyes.

The woman told the officer that due to BOMHACK’s “mental health history of suicidal ideations,” she left work and went home. She said BOMHACK’s arms were “covered in multiple scratch marks” from her two cats.

BOMHACK claimed that after hitting Wolfie, he wanted to bathe both cats and that’s when he was scratched.

The woman told the officer that due to BOMHACK’s “erratic behavior” he may have tried to drown Wolfie or her other cat.

She said she found Wolfie hidden in her room with his jaw stuck open and drooling. At that point she asked BOMHACK to leave her apartment and she took Wolfie to an emergency veterinary center.

The officer then met with the veterinarian who examined Wolfie and learned that when the furvictim was brought in, he had a “noticeable facial trauma.” The vet told the officer that X-Rays revealed that Wolfie had “a dislocated jaw, pooling of blood to one eye, and swelling to the nose and mouth” and had to undergo surgery.

The vet advised the officer that the total medical care cost was $858.12.

BOMHACK was arrested on November 9, 2024, and charged with felony animal cruelty. He was released from the Bexar County Jail after posting bond.

I have been sitting on this story for a few days hoping to get a response from the San Antonio Police Department and Animal Services regarding an update on Wolfie’s well-being.

I would have liked to tell you more about it and share his pictures. Should I get a response, I will post an update.

On November 8, 2024, the Humane Society of Missouri’s Animal Cruelty Task Force rescued twenty-eight puppies and dogs from a property in Polk County.

The rescue is the result of multiple visits to the property and repeated efforts by the Animal Cruelty Task Force to work with the property owner to improve the dogs’ care.

The ACT investigator warned the property owner that the animals may be removed if their health and environment didn’t improve. However, despite the warnings, when the ACT investigator returned to the property to check on the welfare of the dogs, most recently thirty days ago, it was apparent that their wellbeing and safety worsened. At that point the Polk County Sheriff removed the dogs under a warrant and placed them in the care of HSMO.

The Voiceless Victims had no access to food or water, and were tethered to heavy chains, which limited their movement and ability to seek shelter.

According to the HSMO, many dogs were found severely underweight and many others were found injured.

Sadly, many dogs were also found deceased.

In a press release, the Humane Society of Missouri said the dogs, who are of various breeds and breed mixes, were taken to “HSMO’s Macklind headquarters in St. Louis to receive health evaluations and emergency veterinary treatment.”

HSMO President Kathy Warnick said: “These dogs lived in horrific conditions, and had we not intervened, many more may not have survived. We are grateful for the cooperation of the Polk County Sheriff and their assistance in helping us rescue these animals from such dangerous neglect before their conditions worsened or they died. Now that they are safe, community support is critical to ensure these dogs receive the care and treatment they deserve and a new chance for a better life with a loving family.”

On December 4, 2024, a disposition hearing will determine whether HSMO will assume legal custody of the dogs. As explained in the press release, “If awarded custody, HSMO will make the dogs available for adoption after they have been given a clean bill of health by the veterinarians and evaluated by the animal behavior team. As the animals recover – medically and behaviorally – they will be made available for adoption on a case-by-case basis.”

Meanwhile, the HSMO is requesting the community’s help with more supplies such as “blankets, towels, sheets, comforters, newspaper and of course toys!! New or used are both very much appreciated!

I have emailed the Polk County Sheriff’s Office to see whether any arrests were made in connection with this case and at the time of writing, I have not received a response.
