The Tuscaloosa Police Department announced that 23-years-old BLANE AUSTIN COLBURN (pictured) began his 90-day jail sentence in the Tuscaloosa County jail.

The sentence concludes an animal cruelty case which goes back to July 2020, when a disturbing video posted on Facebook showed COLBURN dumping three puppies from a crate and throwing two of them against a bathroom wall.

The community helped with the investigation by identifying COLBURN who then turned himself in.

The VOCELESS VICTIMS were examined by a veterinarian who found one of them suffered bruised ribs. All the furbabies made a full recovery.

After his release in November 2022, COLBURN will be placed on probation for three years.

While I find this sentence to be extremely light and ridiculous, Tuscaloosa Police wrote in a Facebook post: “We’re grateful for the attorneys with the Tuscaloosa County District Attorney's Office who take these cases seriously, ensuring jail time for offenders who harm animals.”

The Tuscaloosa Police Department announced in a Facebook post that 21-year-old BLANE AUSTIN COLBURN (pictured), turned himself in at the Tuscaloosa County Jail on Tuesday afternoon, July 21.

COLBURN was wanted by the police after a video that circulated online was also reported to the authorities.

The distressing video shows a male callously dumping three young dogs from a crate and throwing two of them against a wall.

Investigators have charged COLBURN with first-degree animal abuse.

According to jail records, the accused has since been released on a $10,000 bail.

All three furbabies were examined by a veterinarian. One of them was found to have suffered from minor injuries. All these innocent souls are expected to make a full recovery.

The Department wrote in a Facebook post: “TPD Investigator Curvin and the Criminal Investigations Division worked tirelessly on this case since it was reported Saturday morning, and brought it to a successful conclusion with an overwhelming amount of assistance of the public.”

After deputies with the Heard County Sheriff’s Office arrested WENDY BREWER, owner of Dogs Rock Rescue, in connection with what authorities are calling a “horrific case of animal abuse”, they have now also arrested Dogs Rock Rescue's associate 56-years-old DEANALYN REIGN (both females pictured).

BREWER was arrested after officials executed a search warrant on Thursday, August 25, 2022, and found evidence of animal cruelty and abuse at two locations on Fir Road in Franklin.

Nearly 200 dogs were removed from both properties and it took the collaboration of a dozen agencies, including animal control and animal rescue from Carroll, Cherokee, Coweta, Forsyth, Meriwether, and Troup counties. The Atlanta Humane Society was also on the scene to assist.

Many of the dogs were sick, hungry, and dehydrated. They were in cages walking around in their own filth. Sadly, many others were found dead.

FOX 5 Atlanta reports that “A van used to transport some of the dogs for a weekend adoption event was found on the property still packed days afterward. It had never been unloaded.”

According to authorities, some of the dogs are gaining weight and their health conditions are improving. Lt. Dan Boswell with the Heard County Sheriff's Office said that sadly, some of them will have to be euthanized.

About fifty of the dogs rescued from hell, were placed in the care of Friends of Heard County Animal Control DOGS which has a normal capacity for only fifteen dogs so you can only imagine all the help they need to face this hardship. Staff are also in desperate need of volunteers to interact with the dogs.

In a Facebook post the nonprofit wrote that “All dogs have been given DAP, Rabies, bordatella, and flea/tick prevention. **All have been dog tested and are wonderful with other dogs!”

If you wish and can afford to donate or are interested in volunteering to care for the dogs, please, visit the nonprofit’s Facebook page. Thank you!

In regard to REIGN, Lt. Dan Boswell told FOX 5 Atlanta that she has a criminal past for animal abuse in Alabama. For that case “She was given two years probation (…) and some classes that she had to take.”

But that’s not all. In fact, that same year in Connecticut, REIGN “was stopped on Interstate-95 by Connecticut state troopers. And they recovered 20 dogs--correction, 30 dogs--that were stacked in crates inside a van”, added Lt. Boswell.

As I was Googling REIGN, I came across two old articles about her.

One was published by WTVM on February 10, 2015, titled: “AL woman found guilty of animal cruelty.”

According to the article, on February 5, 2015, after a two-day trial, a Lee County Jury found REIGN guilty of five counts of cruelty to animals in the second degree. At the time, REIGN was the owner of Southern Dogs Rescue.

Reportedly, in December 2013, a Lee County resident reported to the Lee County Sheriff's Office and Lee County Animal Control that there were several dogs on some property located in the 400 block of Lee Road 4 in Auburn who appeared to have been abandoned and neglected.

Officials found 20 dogs in fence kennels who appeared to be malnourished and starving to death. There was no food in the kennels and the water was stagnant and green. The furbabies were also walking around in their own feces and mud.

Dr. Buddy Bruce's Veterinary Office examined the dogs who also had health issues such as intestinal worms.

As I always say, animal abusers are toxic and toxic people do not change, they only change their victims!

Furthermore, weak laws, merciful judges, and disgraceful prosecutors who accept plea deals continue to allow tragedies like these to happen and as always at the expense of INNOCENT ANIMALS!!!!

As for BREWER, she was initially charged with misdemeanor animal cruelty and abandonment. Authorities later added two counts of aggravated animal cruelty.

~ Update: July 5, 2024

On June 18, 2024, the individual responsible for intentionally setting Riona on fire, 45-years-old QUISHON BROWN (pictured), entered the guilty plea to one count of aggravated cruelty to animals and was sentenced to ONLY one year in the Shelby County prison.

BROWN was arrested on July 12, 2022, after investigators said video surveillance showed him in his backyard on Berkshire Avenue only thirty-six seconds before Riona escaped and ran down Hood Street. BROWN was charged with aggravated animal cruelty, arson to wit set fire to personal property, and simple assault.

According to WREG, the day before BROWN was arrested, “…officers were told that the man responsible for burning the dog told another person he was going to burn down the house of whoever gave the video to police and the news.”

Court records show that a few days after his release, BROWN violated his bail conditions when he was found on video with a new puppy so he was re-arrested but authorities did not find the puppy.

In a recent Facebook post published by Tails of Hope Dog Rescue, the amazing organization recounted the devastating facts.

Part of the post read:

During that time Riona went through numerous surgeries to repair her little body.

60% of her body received in 4th degree burns.

It was so horrific that one of her ears literally burnt off and fell into [the] bandages one day during a bandage change.

She went through 4 to 5 fully sedated bandage changes per day for several weeks.

She had several surgeries to close up wounds.

She had skin expanders placed in her to help harvest skin that she would need for skin [grafts]. Then she went through those surgeries.

She was provided 24/7 medical care for months.

After one year and just over $92,000.00 worth of medical ( and yes there was a discount) she was adopted by the best family she could have ever dreamt of.”

On a separate note, FOX 13 reports that BROWN is also accused of raping a child in December 2020. He was indicted in the case in February 2024, and is set to appear in court again July 26, 2024.

The Memphis-based nonprofit Tails of Hope Dog Rescue is facing an extreme case that goes beyond cruel.

On the evening of Monday, June 20, a dog screaming in pain and running down the street while on fire, caught the attention of residents of the Nutbush community, near Chelsea and Graham in Memphis, who then ran out into the streets.

The horrific act was caught on camera. Part of the footage exclusively published by FOX 13, showed many people running out of their homes all in the same direction. One resident can be seen with a water hose and another neighbor, Ms. Ashlie Craft, came out with a bucket and filled it with water from her pool trying to put out the flames.

A fast-acting Good Samaritan jumped in and put out the flames to rescue the young pup believed to be 1 year old.

The Memphis Police Department was immediately called to the scene, and the furbaby was taken to Bluff City Veterinary Specialists.

Kylie Hunter, a Vet Technician at Bluff City Veterinary Specialists, told FOX 13: “Somebody set this dog on fire. Someone purposely set this dog on fire.”

The dog, now named Riona, was fully examined and Tails of Hope Dog rescue said she was “doused with diesel fuel ( high odor still on her ) and burnt. Lots of raw burnt skin and singed fur.” Riona suffered fourth degree burns to her face and left side, and first to second-degree burns on other parts of her body. Tails of Hope Dog Rescue also said that Riona has “a cut around her neck from a tie up cord.”

The nonprofit said in a Facebook post: “Someone knows who did this. She has old scars from previous injuries, meaning she has been a victim of abuse for a while.”

Memphis Police are investigating this act of absolute evil. Whoever did this to a defenseless breathing being unable to dial for help is not just cruel. The individual is soulless, heartless, and most of all a filthy coward!

A reward of $5,500 is being offered in exchange for information leading to a criminal conviction of the monster who did this to Riona.

If you have ANY information, I beg you, come forward and submit your tips to Memphis Police. Thank you!

If you wish and can afford to help out Tails of Hope Dog Rescue with Riona’s medical bills, these are the ways to do it:
