On Saturday, September 2, 2022, Caldwell County Animal Care Enforcement received a call about an injured dog in the area of Abington Road and Valley View Circle.

Upon arrival, the officer found the dog off the roadway. According to a press release by the Caldwell County Sheriff’s Office, the furbaby “suffered a severe injury and was taken to an emergency vet to receive care. After emergency surgery, the dog is expected to make a full recovery.”

The Caldwell County Animal Care Enforcement believed the dog was intentionally injured and left to die on the side of the road, so authorities reached out to the public for information and the nonprofit Piedmont Animal Rescue – PAR offered a reward of $3,500.

The sheriff’s office announced that an arrest has been made in this case. 21-years-old BETHANY MARIE BEAVER (pictured), is the heartless and soulless individual responsible for abandoning her dog.

According to the sheriff’s office, on September 7, 2022, Caldwell County Animal Care Enforcement Officers received a tip which was investigated and that successfully led to BEAVER’s arrest. The female was located with assistance from the Lenoir Police Department and the North Carolina Highway Patrol.

BEAVER was transported to the Caldwell County Magistrate’s Office, where she received a $15,000 bond. She was then taken to the Caldwell County Detention Facility, where she will be held until she can make bond.

Online arrest records show that BEAVER is still in custody. According to court records, she has a morning court appearance scheduled for September 29, 2022.

The VOICELESS VICTIM is in the care of Piedmont Animal Rescue.

The St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Office announced that 48-years-old STACEY OZENNE COMEAUX (pictured), who was being sought for animal cruelty, turned herself in on Monday, August 22, 2022.

In a news release, St. Landry Parish Sheriff Bobby J. Guidroz said that on August 16, 2022, deputies were dispatched to a veterinary clinic in the 14700 block of Highway 190 in Opelousas, regarding an animal cruelty complaint

Deputies learned that a pet rescuer was tagged in a Facebook post regarding a dog who was left to die in the yard of a home on 282 Aymond Road in Port Barre.

The rescuer contacted the property owner, who said that COMEAUX was the rental tenant.

The pet rescuer arrived at the property and at the back, they found a red/rust colored Doberman Pinscher. “The dog was leashed and lying in a shallow hole in a bush”, stated the release.

The furbaby was alive but covered in fleas, ants, and maggots. Furthermore, the poor soul could not walk, could not keep his/her head up, and ribs were visible through the skin.

The rescuer alerted the St. Landry Parish Animal Control and the dog was taken to the veterinary clinic for immediate medical care.

Sadly, later in the afternoon, the furbaby succumbed to his/her illness.

According to the sheriff’s office, deputies contacted COMEAUX on August 19, 2022, and she told them that she was out of state and would not be returning until August 20, 2022.

She was advised to contact deputies immediately upon her return in regards to this incident.

On the afternoon of August 20, 2022, deputies’ attempts to contact COMEAUX were unsuccessful and a warrant was issued for her arrest, charging her with one count of cruelty to animals.

Online records show COMEAUX is no longer in custody.

The nonprofit Animal Rescue League of Boston (ARL) and the Malden Police Department are investigating after a tiny Chihuahua was found in Malden.

A Good Samaritan found the male 1-year-old furbaby, on Monday, July 25, huddling in some bushes along the East Coast Greenway bike trail in the area of Dell and Branch streets.

The pooch, named Bailey by the person who found him, was severely emaciated. The Good Samaritan wrapped him in a blanket and took him to the Malden Police Department.

In a news release ARL said that Bailey was initially treated at an animal hospital in Charlestown and later transferred to the ARL.

The agency further said that Bailey weighed just 2.7 pounds and scored 2 out of 9 on the body condition score index. The furbaby also suffered severe fur loss and scabs cover his body.

As if the scenario was not heartbreaking enough, Bailey also tested positive and is being treated for Giardia, a parasitic illness that may indicate he was living in unsanitary conditions.

ARL said: “when presented for medical treatment, the animal was described as ‘malodorous’ (filthy).”

Bailey is receiving ongoing veterinary care, including medicated baths and a refeeding plan to ensure he gains weight slowly and safely”, said the ARL.

I have emailed Mr. Mike DeFina, Communications & Media Relations Officer for the ARL and asked how Bailey is doing and whether vets are optimistic about his full recovery.

Mr. DeFina kindly responded to my email and said: “Bailey is doing remarkably well given what he’s been through. He’s alert, bright and extremely friendly with everyone he meets. It’s too early to tell if his skin issues are chronic or if they’ll resolve over time but he is expected to make a full recovery. He’s a resilient dog who has been through a traumatic experience but the Animal Rescue League of Boston is committed to finding him the home he deserves, as well as determining who may have been responsible for abandoning him.”

So, let’s get to work and find the lowlife who had no problem whatsoever abandoning a tiny living being!

If you have any information about this crime, please speak up for the VOICELESS VICTIM and call the Malden Police Department at (781) - 397 - 7171, or the ARL at (617) - 426 - 9170. Thank you!
