The Evansville Police Department arrested 30-year-old DAQUAIN CAPRICE THIGPEN (pictured).

According to the probable cause affidavit obtained by Voice For Us, on the afternoon of Saturday, June 15, 2024, police received a call about a dog who had been beaten to death in the backyard of a home in the 400 block of North Morton Avenue.

When officers responded to the given address, they met with a man who stated that many people were talking about the incident and added that he “walked through the alley north of the home and could smell the odor of something deceased.” The man told officers that through the fence he could see a dog laying on his/her side “very obviously deceased”, stated the affidavit.

Police found the dead dog in the backyard. According to the affidavit, the furvictim had a muzzle on, was bloated, and covered in flies. The probable cause affidavit stated, “It appeared the dog had been deceased possibly over a day. There was minor blood spatter next to the dog.” There was no sign of food or water for the poor soul.

Police also found a second dog, who was alive, and two cats in kennels in the middle of the yard.

Some witnesses told police that THIGPEN lived at the home with his girlfriend and a child.

An Animal Control Officer responded to the scene to pick up the deceased dog. According to the document, the two cats and the other dog were left at the home “due to the livable conditions.” Police reported that there were some water bowls and “the cats had litter boxes that appeared to have been recently cleaned.”

The following day, Sunday, June 16, 2024, Evansville Police officer Pitt was on routine patrol in the area and saw a vehicle parked in front of THIGPEN’s home that was registered to him.

THIGPEN was in the yard and officer Pitt questioned him about the dog. THIGPEN claimed that when he left Saturday to go pick up his brother, the dog was alive. THIGPEN told officer Pitt the dog was fine and he fed him/her pizza and chicken. He admitted to putting the muzzle on the dog but said that he/she was still able to drink. THIGPEN told the officer that he was aware the dog could not eat with the muzzle on but he did it because the dog was aggressive and had bitten people in the past.

THIGPEN insisted that the dog was alive when he left and accused the animal control officer of shooting him/her. THIGPEN even said that some people who do not like him fed the dog rat poison.

As the interview proceeded, officer Pitt noticed what appeared to be “blood droplets on the porch.” Officer Pitt asked THIGPEN if his girlfriend, Ariel Fleming, was home and he said she wasn’t. He insisted that he had no knowledge of the dog’s death and how he/she died.

Officer Pitt placed THIGPEN under arrest and transported him to the Vanderburgh County Jail for animal cruelty. Records show THIGPEN  was released and he is scheduled to appear at Vanderburgh County Superior Court on June 21, 2024, at 9:00a.m.

The report did not have any details about the deceased dog. His/her age, name, breed, and gender are not disclosed. It is as though this life did not mean anything. I still cannot believe that the other three Voiceless Victims were left at the home!

I took the liberty of naming the dead furvictim Cloud. Should his/her given name be made public, I will rectify this accordingly.

The Canton Police Department arrested 21-year-old CYNTHIA ANN SCHMIDGALL and 20-year-old ETHAN WAYNE SCHMIDGALL (both pictured).

On June 7, 2024, police along with the Stark County Humane Society responded to a home on Henry Avenue SW south of Route 30 after a report from the Humane Society.

The inside of the home was covered in feces and urine. Officials found several cats and dogs who were severely malnourished.

Sadly, three cats and four dogs were found dead.

Police said that some of them had been dead for so long that they began to liquefy and seep into the ground.

A total of sixteen animals were rescued and are now recovering at the Stark County Humane Society. According to police, two of the rescued dogs were so emaciated that their rib cages were visible and they were struggling standing up.

Officials learned from multiple neighbors that the SCHMIDGALLS had not been at the home for three to four weeks.

The couple are now facing twenty-three charges of prohibitions concerning companion animals. Only seven of those counts are felonies, the others are misdemeanors.

The SCHMIDGALLS waived their preliminary hearings in Canton Municipal Court and their cases bound over to Stark County Common Pleas Court.

~ Update: June 21, 2024

BARC CT announced that Shadow has passed away.

In a Facebook post the shelter said that Shadow “succumbed to his horrific injuries from intentional prolonged starvation and [abuse]” by his guardian, KADESHA WILSON.

Part of the post read: “We believed his recovery was just off to a slow start. We hoped. We prayed.” According to BARC CT, on June 14, 2024, Shadow was rushed to the VCA by his foster mom Lynnann after he vomited and she felt something was “off.”

As BARC CT wrote: “The VCA vets and staff believed in your recovery [and] went above and beyond to give you the best chance at a [brand-new] life.”

Let me take this opportunity to remind you that WILSON’s next court date is July 12, 2024.

~ Original story:

The Waterbury Police Department arrested 29-year-old KADESHA WILSON (pictured).

According to the arrest warrant obtained by Voice For Us, on May 20, 2024, officers were dispatched to a residence at 10 Maley Place after receiving an animal cruelty complaint.

Police said in their press release that officers responded to the aforementioned address on May 29, 2024.

The complainant, who at the time wished to remain anonymous, told police that there were dogs at the residence who were malnourished and being kept outside in a cage under a tarp.

Responding officers were met by a male who stated that there was one dog at the house who was outside and claimed that the dog “was sprayed by a skunk.” The male then told officers that the dog’s guardian was not there at the house.

The arrest warrant stated: “Without further information, and the fact the complainant was anonymous, Officers left the scene at that time.”

On June 10, 2024, the Criminal Investigations Bureau (CIB) was made aware that BARC CT (Bridgeport Animal Rescue Crew), rescued two dogs from the residence on Maley Place.

The furvictims, a male Pitbull named Shadow and a small female dog named Jada, were found in an abandoned car parked in the rear of the residence. The vehicle was covered in feces and urine.

According to the arrest warrant, the person who reported WILSON to the police, had been staying at 10 Maley Place where she witnessed the neglect and abuse inflicted on Jada and Shadow. The complainant said she witnessed WILSON physically hit the dogs and added that she did not ever see WILSON feed the dogs. The complainant told police that she even offered to buy food for the dogs but WILSON declined.

Moreover, the complainant told WILSON that her boss was willing to take the dogs and even offered her money but WILSON refused to give up the dogs.

The complainant said that WILSON put Jada and Shadow in the abandoned vehicle after the police had been there.

Finally, on June 7, 2024, WILSON told the complainant that she could take the dogs. The complainant was in contact with BARC CT and the shelter was willing to take them in. It was the complainant that was able to rescue Jada and Shadow from the car and BARC CT has been caring for them since.

Shadow was visibly malnourished with his ribs/bones showing and was rushed to the vet. He was also dehydrated and unable to process food.

Based on the poor condition of Jada and Shadow and WILSON’s admission that she was their guardian, detectives obtained a warrant for WILSON’s arrest.

WISLON was located and placed under arrest on June 13, 2024, and charged with two counts of animal cruelty. She was arraigned at Waterbury Superior Court and bond was set at $15,000.

As I was reading the updates on Jada and Shadow that BARC CT shared on their Facebook page, I learned that there was a third dog at Maley Place whom the police did not mention in their press release. The arrest affidavit does not mention a third dog being at the house either.

According to BARC CT, the missing dog is a female Pitbull.

As you can imagine, Shadow’s medical care is costly and if you can afford and wish to help out, please click here. Thank you!
