REWARD offered and investigation underway after the discovery of a dead Bulldog puppy in a backpack

Through a Facebook post, the Suffolk County SPCA advised that on November 14, 2024, they were alerted to a backpack containing “the severely emaciated remains of a deceased” French or English Bulldog.


The agency said the furvictim was estimated to be “between six months and one year old.”


The heart wrenching discovery was made on Miller Place-Yaphank Road, north of Whiskey Road in the woods in Miller Place and detectives are “actively canvassing the area for witnesses or information related to this crime”, said the SPCA.


Initially, a $3,000 reward was being offered in return for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the lowlife responsible for this nefarious act of animal cruelty.


As advised by the Suffolk County SPCA , the New York State Humane Association has pledged an additional $1,000 to the reward totaling $4,000.

ALBERTO MORRIS arrested for murdering an innocent dog by throwing him off a14th-floor balcony

On the early morning of November 1, 2024, Luis Gabriel Santamaria (pictured), went back to his apartment on 220 Montgomery Street in Crown Heights, Brooklyn from a Halloween party to find his dog murdered.


Mr. Santamaria found his beloved 2-year-old Pitbull named Kith lying lifeless on the sidewalk


In a post shared on X, the NYPD said that following the incident, its Detectives from the Animal Cruelty Investigation Squad and the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) promptly launched an investigation.


In connection with Kith’s senseless death, police arrested on November 18, 2024, 33-year-old ALBERTO MORRIS (pictured via The Post).

MORRIS was charged with reckless endangerment, aggravated cruelty to animals, torturing an animal, grand larceny, criminal possession of stolen property, and criminal mischief.


Mr. Santamaria said he had earlier got into an argument with MORRIS, and in retaliation, MORRIS broke into his apartment, grabbed Kith and threw him off the balcony.


Remembering his furbaby, Mr. Santamaria told The Post: “I had him since he was a baby, since he was 1-month old. He was literally my best friend.” And then added: “I never would have thought he would do what he did, murder my dog for no reason.”


Earlier this week at his arraignment MORRIS pled not guilty and was released without bail.

The Brooklyn District Attorney's Office said MORRIS has no prior arrests and his charges are non-bail eligible under state law, meaning he can’t be held behind bars unless convicted.

The Brooklyn District Attorney’s Office tells me that MORRIS is due back in court on March 11, 2025.

WHITNEY LEE BACHANAS facing charges – Innocent abandoned animals found abused, mistreated, and dead

The Otsego County Sheriff’s Office arrested 40-year-old WHITNEY LEE BACHANAS (pictured), of Milford.

 

Otsego County Sheriff Richard J. Devlin said that a welfare check conducted at a residence on County Highway 35 in the Town of Milford led to the discovery of “several animals in and around the residence that were found to be abandoned, malnourished and mistreated.”

 

According to the release by the sheriff’s office, one dog, a quail, and a turkey were sadly found deceased.

 

Two live quail, who appeared to be malnourished, were rescued for foster and rehabilitation.

 

Two emaciated dogs were deemed in critical condition so they were taken to Cornell University Veterinary Hospital.

 

The Susquehanna SPCA, that along with Farm Friends Network assisted in this rescue and investigation, identified the two dogs as a 9-month-old female Great Dane named Belle and a male Great Dane named Oscar estimated to be almost two years old.

 

Sadly, Oscar later died from complications due to his poor physical condition.

The sweet soul underwent emergency surgery for a condition commonly known as bloat, which can occur in dogs who experience malnutrition when they begin to eat again.

 

BACHANAS was arrested on September 3, 2024. She was originally charged with abandonment of animals and failure to provide proper sustenance and she was scheduled to appear in Milford Town Court on October 1, 2024. However, that appearance has since been rescheduled for Tuesday, October 8, 2024, at 4:30 p.m.

 

A recent release by the Otsego County Sheriff’s Office advised that as the investigation progressed, three felony charges were also filed against BACHANAS.

 

As stated in the release: “Due to continued investigation in collaboration with Susquehanna SPCA, Cornell University Veterinary Hospital and Upstate Veterinary Specialties the above defendant who was previously arrested for multiple counts of animal cruelty has been additionally charged with three counts of Aggravated Animal Cruelty.”
