On Saturday, December 2, 2023, Liberty police arrested 33-years-old BREIGH MECHLING (pictured), on an arrest warrant issued by the Warren city prosecutor’s office on November 30, 2023, for failing to appear in Warren Municipal Court on four misdemeanor counts of cruelty to animals.

It all started on Wednesday, November 29, 2023, when officers with the Howland Township Police Department responded to MECHLING’s duplex on Elisabeth Avenue. Police said that MECHLING took off when she saw police approaching. Officers met with a man who said that MECHLING had asked him to put her dogs somewhere, after she had been evicted, but when the man saw the condition the dogs were in, he realized he had to alert the authorities.

Police found three dogs and a cat.

One of the dogs was throwing up liquid and bile. The other two dogs were so emaciated that their bones were visible through their skin and one of them had open wounds. Officers also reported seeing bugs jumping on and around a cat who had been left in a crate.

The four Voiceless Victims were removed and placed in the care of The Healthy Hearts and Paws Project.

MECHLING was located at a motel on 4250 Belmont Avenue.

On the afternoon of Saturday, December 2, 2023, an officer on patrol had been checking the parking lot of the motel described as a “high crime area” known for human trafficking, gang activity, drug trafficking, gun crimes, fugitives, and other crimes.

The officer saw a woman, later identified as MECHLING and a man later identified as CHRISTOPHER FLYNN, carrying things from a SUV. The officer ran a check on the plate and learned that MECHLING had a warrant out for her arrest for four counts of animal cruelty.

When MECHLING was questioned, she had two other dogs with her.

Police also found methamphetamine in a purse containing MECHLING’s personal belongings.

On Monday, December 4, 2023, MECHLING appeared at Warren Municipal Court for her arraignment and she pleaded not guilty to the charges. Her bond was set at $2,500. MECHLING is expected back in court on December 15, 2023.

Jason Cooke, with The Healthy Hearts and Paws Project told WKBN that in total five dogs and three cats were removed from MECHLING and the shelter is now caring for them.

On Monday, December 4, 2023, the Ontario County Sheriff’s Office arrested 36-years-old ALICIA A. WRIGHT (pictured via Facebook), 37-years-old CORY JOHN DISANTO (pictured via Facebook), 54-years-old AMY E. WALKER, and her husband 60-years-old ROBERT M. WALKER.

The sheriff’s office along with the Ontario County Humane Society launched an investigation on November 24, 2023, after receiving a complaint about a property on 1074 Cress Road in Phelps.

The investigation led to the discovery of a deceased dog behind the property.

The sheriff's office said the dog, a 3-year-old Dogo Argentino named Covid, was found wrapped in a blanket several yards from a makeshift kennel, in a wooded area.

The Voiceless Victim was taken to the Cornell University Animal Health Diagnostic Center, where a necropsy was performed. Results showed that the furvictim died from starvation.

The sheriff’s office said all four individuals were aware of the furbaby’s situation even if DISANTO moved out before the investigation began. All four were charged with a felony count of aggravated cruelty to an animal.

Five other dogs were found inside the property and removed. Veterinary staff at the Ontario County Humane Society examined them and found them to be healthy.

DISANTO was taken to the Ontario County Jail for arraignment, while the others were issued an appearance ticket to appear in Phelps Town Court at a later date.
