On July 25, 2025, a housing manager at the Sherman Hills apartment complex on 300 Parkview Circle in Wilkes-Barre, found two abandoned dogs in one of the units and alerted a Humane Officer at Blue Chip.
The responding officer found two emaciated small white terrier-type dogs, one female and a male.
The female dog had badly matted fur. She was found in a pink kennel which according to the affidavit, was “saturated in urine” and “covered in feces.”
The male dog was in a black cage and appeared “lifeless.” He was covered in urine and feces and could barely lift his head.
From an investigation into this case, it emerged that 24-year-old TAHLIA NADRE UNIQUE COX had moved out and left the dogs behind.
The furvictims were taken to the SPCA of Luzerne County and examined by veterinarians.
It was determined that both dogs, in addition to being emaciated, had burn marks and rotten teeth.
The male dog was also found to have non-regenerative anemia resulting from being neglected for a prolonged period. He was sadly euthanized as the damage was irreversible.
The female dog was placed on a feeding program and is being closely monitored.
On the early afternoon of Monday, August 4, 2025, officers with the Wilkes-Barre City Police Department were dispatched to North Empire Court to assist Wilkes-Barre City Animal Enforcement serve a warrant for COX’s arrest.
COX was charged with four felony counts of aggravated cruelty to animals, two misdemeanor counts of neglecting animals, and two summary counts of neglecting animals.
She was transported to City Headquarters for processing.
Later in the afternoon, she appeared before Magisterial District Judge Brian J. Tupper for her arraignment and released on a $5,000 unsecured bail.
Court records show that COX’s preliminary hearing is slated for August 20, 2025, at 8:30 a.m.
I took the liberty of naming the Voiceless Victim who was euthanized Prince for the tribute image. Should his given name be made public, I will rectify it accordingly.
