Updated: Apr 21, 2022

- North Carolina, USA -

The Polk County Sheriff's Office said that 22-years-old SARAH KATHRYN STEPP (pictured below) is facing animal cruelty charges after authorities found several animals in her home, including a deceased animal who was decomposing.

According to a news release by the sheriff’s office, authorities found in STEPP’s home one duck, two guinea pigs, seven rabbits, and one dead animal. The sheriff’s office did not specify what animal that was.

According to officials, the dead animal was found decomposing because he/she had not been properly disposed of, and no attempt was made to move the body after death.

On Sunday, October 24, STEPP was charged with ten counts of misdemeanor animal cruelty and one count of unlawful disposing of a dead domesticated animal.

Bond was set at $15,000 and online records show she was released after posting it.

STEPP is scheduled to appear before a District Court Judge on November 17, 2021.

The sheriff’s office said STEPP was also served with unrelated felony warrants out of Henderson and Haywood Counties.
