The Lonoke County Sheriff's Office announced the arrest of 38-year-old DANIEL MARLIN TOENNIES (pictured), of Jacksonville.

According to the office’s press release, deputies received an anonymous tip concerning malnourished and neglected dogs at a home in the South Bend area.

Investigators who responded to the given location reported finding sixteen starving dogs who had been left tied up to short chains without food and water. Sadly, investigators also discovered the bodies of three deceased dogs.

The sheriff’s office said Jak's Second Chance Rescue and Novastar Rescue stepped in to provide care for the furvictims.

In one of their Facebook posts, Jak’s Second Chance Rescue said: “These dogs have never been loved. Never been treated kindly. Never been properly cared for. Yet they’re all sweet and so thankful to be unchained.”

One of the dogs, a female now named Audrey, was found chained on the porch of the home and Jak’s Second Chance Rescue rightfully pointed out: “They had to walk past her every day. Probably multiple times a day. And they never helped her. I don’t even have the ability to comprehend how a human being can do that.”

According to the nonprofit, Audrey is in “very severe condition,” and added: She’s pooping dark foul smelling feces. She’s weak. She’s wheezing. Her eye is so infected that we are anticipating it will have to be removed. Right now she’s not even strong enough to have surgery though.”

As you can imagine, Jak’s Second Chance Rescue is in desperate need of donations to face medical care and vet bills. If you wish and can afford to help, please, click here. Thank you!

TOENNIES was charged with nineteen counts of aggravated animal cruelty and at the time of writing, records show that he is being held into the Lonoke County Jail.

Lonoke County Sheriff John Staley said in a written statement: “This case is heartbreaking, but it shows the power of working together. Because someone cared enough to speak up, and because of the quick response from our investigators and rescue partners, these dogs now have a second chance at life. Animal cruelty will not be tolerated in Lonoke County. We are grateful for everyone who played a part in saving them.”
