On July 23, 2026, NAYZAK SATIE NAJM (pictured) appeared in Travis County Court in connection with the thirteen misdemeanor counts of cruelty to non-livestock animals, for which she was charged in March 2026.
NAJM was arrested by the Austin Police Department after an investigation revealed that she had vacated a unit at an apartment complex located at 10101 S. 1st Street, leaving behind fifteen abandoned cats. The cats were found in unsanitary and unsafe conditions and in varying states of malnourishment.
Two cats were tragically found deceased. No charges were filed in connection with their deaths because the cause of death could not be determined.
Among the thirteen live cats, there was one who was in “grave condition.” He was sadly euthanized due to the severity of his condition to prevent further pain and suffering.
On July 23, 2026, NAJM received deferred adjudication on only one count of cruelty to non-livestock animals, while all the other twelve were dismissed!
Deferred adjudication is a form of community supervision authorized under Article 42A.101 of the Texas Code of Criminal Procedure. Under this arrangement, a defendant pleads guilty or nolo contendere, but the court defers a finding of guilt and places the defendant on community supervision for a specified period.
If the defendant successfully completes the terms of supervision, the court may dismiss the case without entering an adjudication of guilt. However, if the defendant violates the conditions of supervision, the court may proceed to adjudicate guilt and, upon conviction, impose any sentence authorized for the underlying offense, up to the maximum applicable punishment.
According to the Deferral of Adjudication of Guilt and Supervision Order, NAJM was placed on deferred adjudication for twelve months during which time she is ordered to complete thirty hours of community service and she cannot have any pet animals. Additionally, NAJM must take a Responsible Pet Ownership class.

The Austin Police Department announced the arrest of 27-year-old NAYZAK SATIE NAJM (pictured).
According to the Department press release, on the late afternoon of February 5, 2026, officers responded to an apartment complex on 10101 S. 1st Street after a concerned resident reported “multiple malnourished cats inside a neighboring unit that appeared to be living in unsanitary and unsafe conditions”.
Officers contacted the apartment manager and learned that on January 16, 2026, NAJM had turned in the keys of the unit after vacating it.
Management discovered the cats after entering the unit to begin restoration efforts following prior flooding issues.
Officers reported that the conditions inside the unit were consistent with a hoarding environment, including significant debris, standing water, and widespread waste.
Responding officers determined the matter constituted abandonment, and called in Austin Animal Protection to take custody of all the furvictims.
Animal Protection Officer Michelle Worthey later advised police that a total of fifteen cats were removed from the unit.
Of the fifteen cats, two were sadly found deceased “and had been partially consumed by some of the surviving cats inside the unit”, stated the affidavit.
Among the thirteen live cats, there was one who was in “grave condition” and was rushed to Central Texas Veterinary Clinic on Frontier Trails, Austin.
Sadly, due to the severity of his condition, the innocent soul was euthanized to prevent further pain and suffering.
The other twelve felines, who were found in varying states of malnourishment, were taken to the Austin Animal Center to receive medical treatment.
Based on the evidence gathered during the investigation, the APD Animal Cruelty Detectives filed thirteen misdemeanor counts of cruelty to non-livestock animals against NAJM corresponding to thirteen surviving cats.
Charges were not filed in relation to the two cats who were found dead cats due to the inability to identify their cause of death.
According to the affidavit, APD made multiple attempts to contact NAJM but she did not answer officers’ calls or emails. She was finally arrested on April 15, 2026. At the time of writing, records show NAJM is no longer in custody and a court appearance is set for June 4, 2026, at 9:15 a.m.
