COLE DAUGHTRY arrested after strangling his girlfriend’s Chiweenie to death on video

The Clay County Sheriff’s Office arrested 25-year-old COLE DAUGHTRY (pictured).

According to an arrest report, on August 2, 2026, DAUGHTRY’s live-in girlfriend, whom I will refer to as Ms. C., reported that DAUGHTRY had killed her female Chiweenie (a Dachshund-Chihuahua mix) named Nina by strangulation.

Ms. C. stated that she and DAUGHTRY share a cellular phone. While reviewing past videos on the phone, she discovered several videos depicting DAUGHTRY strangling her dog, Nina, while Nina was bound with blue tape around her legs and muzzle.

Ms. C. further stated that, while watching the videos, she observed DAUGHTRY at times petting Nina while she remained bound with tape, before continuing to strangle her.

Ms. C. said that while watching the videos, she heard Nina whining and saw Nina struggling as she was being strangled. She said Nina’s eyes appeared to bulge and turn red during the incident.

Ms. C. said she was able to identify DAUGHTRY as the person in the video based on tattoos visible on his hands. According to Ms. C., DAUGHTRY has a “2000 Baby” tattoo on his left hand and tattoos associated with a gang on his right hand. Ms. C. said that after watching the videos and concluding that DAUGHTRY was responsible for Nina’s death, she confronted him, leading to an argument. She said DAUGHTRY began crying and told her that someone on the internet had offered him money to strangle the dog until she died.

On August 6, 2026, Deputy Winterstein met with Ms. C. to interview her about the death of her dog Nina. Ms. C. showed Deputy Winterstein the videos from her cellular phone of a white male with his hands around Nina's throat as he strangled her. Nina's muzzle and legs were bound by blue tape. Ms. C. stated DAUGHTRY was strangling Nina with one hand and recording a video with the other. Ms. C. further stated that DAUGHTRY later told her he was sorry he caused Nina's death, but he has no emotion towards animals. While watching the videos, Deputy Winterstein observed tattoos on DAUGHTRY's left and right hand as described by Ms. C. Ms. C. indicated Nina was healthy prior to this incident.

On August 8, 2026, DAUGHTRY was placed under arrest and he admitted to the arresting officer that he bound Nina and strangled her. According to the report, DAUGHTRY stated he heard voices in his head telling him to strangle Nina. DAUGHTRY went on to state that he buried Nina with a friend named PJ in the woods next to Ms. C.'s ex-boyfriend.

The Order Setting Bond shows that DAUGHTRY was charged with one felony count of conservation-animals - aggravated animal cruelty - causes cruel death or inflict unnecessary pain or suffering.

Online court records show that on August 9, 2026, at Clay County Circuit Court, Judge Hector Murcia Bustos set bond at $75,503.00 and at the time of writing, records show that DAUGHTRY is still in custody.

DAUGHTRY’s next court appearance is set for September 8, 2026, at 9:00 a.m.
