JAMAL D. TAYLOR arrested after dog found caged outdoors during heat wave was euthanized
- Illinois, USA -
Vermilion County authorities arrested 46-year-old JAMAL D. TAYLOR (pictured).
In September, the Vermilion County Department of Animal Regulation and Shelter received two separate calls reporting a dog locked inside a wire cage outdoors at a residence in the 1000 block of James Place in Danville.
In an email to me, the department's director, Ryan Goodner, identified the furvictim as Girly, a 4-year-and-1-month-old female American Pit Bull Terrier mix.
Responding officers found Girly inside the cage amid a late-summer heat wave. According to the officers' report, her body temperature was so high that she began having seizures. She also had marks on her body.
When officers contacted TAYLOR, he told them to come and pick up the dog.
According to Mr. Goodner, Girly was euthanized after completing a bite-quarantine period, with her bite history cited as the reason.
I contacted the Vermilion County State's Attorney's Office for additional information and was informed that the case against TAYLOR remains pending. According to Public Information Officer Lucy Overlander, TAYLOR appeared in court for his first appearance and was placed on pretrial release.
His next court appearance is scheduled for December 2, 2026, at 8:30 a.m. in courtroom 1B for a pretrial hearing.
