The Pitt County Sheriff's Office arrested 36-year-old MORGAN PAIGE HEMBY (pictured).
On the morning of December 27, 2025, a deputy along with a Pitt County Animal Control Officer were dispatched to a residence on Elaina Drive in Greenville to investigate an animal cruelty report.
A man led the deputy and the ACO to the woods behind the residence where officers found three deceased dogs.
The press release provided to Voice For Us by the sheriff's office identified the dogs as two Pitbulls and one American Bulldog Retriever. According to the press release, all three furvictims were “in advanced stages of decay.”
The man told officers that he had been in jail from July to December and that his wife, HEMBY, “was to take care of the animals.” He went on to state that when he was released from jail, he noticed that the dogs’ cages had been moved into the woods where he also discovered the dogs lifeless.
The findings of the investigation into the incident were then presented to a magistrate who found probable cause and issued a warrant for HEMBY’s arrest.
On January 5, 2026, HEMBY turned herself in at the magistrate’s office and was booked into the Pitt County Jail on three felony counts of cruelty to animals.
Bond was set at $45,000. At the time of writing records show HEMBY was able to post bond and is free.
I reached out to Pitt County Animal Control to request additional information about the dogs that the sheriff’s office was unable to provide. If I get a response, I will post an update.
