JUSTIN ALEXANDER LEVERETTE arrested for killing two dogs during heated argument with girlfriend’s brothers

- New Mexico, USA -

The Albuquerque Police Department arrested 31-year-old JUSTIN ALEXANDER LEVERETTE (pictured).

On August 25, 2025, LEVERETTE was in his car outside his apartment on 328 Cagua Drive NE, near San Pedro, where he lives with his girlfriend.

During a heated argument with his girlfriend’s two brothers, one of the brothers’ dogs approached the vehicle LEVERETTE was in. Police said LEVERETTE grabbed a handgun from his vehicle and pointed it at the brothers before grabbing the dog by the neck and shooting him/her in the back.

Sadly, the dog did not survive the shooting.

When the brothers’ second dog walked up to the vehicle, LEVERETTE hit the dog with his vehicle before driving down the street. The second dog also sadly died.

Witnesses told the police that LEVERETTE stopped a few houses down and shot at them eight times.

LEVERETTE was taken into custody and booked into the Metropolitan Detention Center.

The state wants to keep him behind bars until trial.

LEVERETTE is facing two counts of extreme animal cruelty, six counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, possession of a firearm by a felon, and shooting from a vehicle.

LEVERETTE was on active parole for robbery and shooting from a vehicle in 2021.
