The Odessa Police Department arrested 26-year-old JONATHAN GUERRA GONZALEZ (pictured).

On November 12, 2025, officers along with Odessa Animal Services, responded to a home in the 600 block of Graham Avenue in reference to an animal cruelty call.

On arrival, officers spoke with a witness who provided them with a video showing GUERRA GONZALEZ beating a dog.

Odessa Police said in a press release that the video, which was described as “graphic and horrible”, showed GUERRA GONZALEZ “repeatedly striking a small dog on the ground. The dog was in a submissive posture on the concrete, and the male subject was striking it with a closed fist.” Sadly, the furvictim died from the savage beating.

When officers questioned GUERRA GONZALEZ about the incident, he told them that he was only “disciplining” the dog for making a mess in the house. However, as stated in the press release, the video depicted abject and unacceptable abuse, not reasonable discipline.

GUERRA GONZALEZ was arrested and charged with cruelty to non-livestock animals, a third-degree felony.
