JEFFREY MICHAEL FELTON arrested in connection with the death of his dog

- Florida, USA -

The Charlotte County Sheriff's Office arrested 28-year-old JEFFREY MICHAEL FELTON (pictured) on accusations of leaving his dog to die while tethered outside for hours in the heat.

The incident happened at a home on 3108 Normandy Drive in Port Charlotte in May 2025.

On the early afternoon of May 30, 2025, the sheriff's office called Animal Control to report that a dog at the aforementioned address appeared to be suffering from heat stroke.

ACO Brianna Beattie responded to the scene and found an 11-year-old brindle Shepherd mix named Neffy already deceased.

From an investigation it emerged that FELTON was Neffy’s guardian. He admitted to ACO Beattie that he had put Neffy outside in the morning and forgot to bring her inside before going to work.

According to the letter that Charlotte County Animal Control sent to the State Attorney’s Office, Neffy had been left tethered outside for a long period of time without access to water or food.

ACO Beattie removed Neffy from the home and her carcass was taken to the Veterinary Emergency Clinic where Dr. Erin Ramsdell performed a necropsy. The results concluded that Neffy died of heat stroke.

Charges against FELTON were filed in August and FELTON was finally arrested on the early evening of March 11, 2026.

FELTON was booked into the Charlotte County Jail on one felony count of cruelty to animals and one misdemeanor count of confinement/abandonment of animals.

At the time of writing, records show FELTON was released after posting a $6,000 bond. According to court records, FELTON is scheduled to appear at Charlotte County Circuit Court on April 20, 2026, at 9:30 a.m. before Judge Lisa Spader Porter.
