The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office announced the arrest of 66-year-old HAROLD ABRAM LAMPKIN SR. (pictured).
On May 22, 2025, the sheriff’s office received a complaint from a woman reporting that her 5-year-old male Dachshund/Chihuahua Chow Mix had died for an unknown reason while in the temporary care of an acquaintance.
The deputy handling the complaint conducted a search regarding the circumstances of the dog’s death and with the findings he reached out to Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Unit for assistance.
The evidence gathered revealed that the circumstances surrounding the dog’s death were suspicious prompting an extensive criminal investigation into the incident.
Investigators located the dog who had been buried in the Town of Florida. The furvictim was exhumed and taken to the Glen Animal Hospital where Dr. Caroline Ennis performed a necropsy to determine the cause of death.
Results showed that the dog’s cause of death was due to multiple gunshot wounds.
The sheriff’s office said that investigators generated several leads into this investigation which determined that LAMPKIN was the suspect involved in this incident.
An arrest warrant for felony aggravated cruelty to animals was applied for and subsequently granted by the Florida Town Court. Additionally, a search warrant for LAMPKIN’s property was applied for, and granted by Montgomery County Court.
The search warrant, which was executed with the assistance of the Amsterdam Police Department, led to the discovery of a .22 caliber rifle. LAMPKIN is a convicted felon in the State of New York and as such, he is prohibited from possessing a firearm.
Consequently, in addition to the aggravated cruelty to animals charge, he is also facing three felony counts of Criminal Possession of a Weapon 3rd Degree: Previous Conviction, and two misdemeanor counts of Criminal Possession of a Weapon 4th Degree: Felon in Possession of Rifle.
LAMPKIN was arrested on June 4, 2025, and at the time of writing, records show that he is being held at the Montgomery County Jail.
Authorities did not disclose the furvictim’s name, so I took the liberty of naming him Petit for the tribute image. Should his given name be made public, I will rectify it accordingly.
