The Greenfield Police Department arrested 51-year-old SALVADOR AVARCA GAETA JR. (pictured).
On March 10, 2026, officers and Community Service Officers with the Greenfield Police Department were dispatched to the 100 block of El Camino Real after receiving a report of animal abuse.
On arrival, officers learned from witnesses that a male, later identified as GAETA, was strangling a Pitbull puppy, punching him, and lifting him by his leash.
Officers reviewed video footage which corroborated witnesses’ reports. They made contact with GAETA and placed him under arrest.
Police said that GAETA “was also found to have several outstanding warrants for his arrest.”
Officers transported GAETA to the Monterey County Jail where he was booked for felony animal abuse in addition to his warrants.
The furvictim was taken to the City Kennels and is being cared for. Police said he was evaluated and, “fortunately, did not sustain major injuries.”
