The Harris County Precinct 1 Constable's Office announced the arrest of 58-year-old GRACIELA SANCHEZ (pictured).
The arrest comes two weeks after authorities uncovered an active cockfighting ring behind a business, listed as a barbershop, in north Houston.
On the afternoon of Sunday, November 30, 2025, deputies responded to a property in the 2400 block of Little York near Aldine Westfield Road after receiving reports about the illegal operation.
On arrival, deputies found many parked vehicles and several individuals attending what appeared to be a cockfighting event. As deputies approached the building, the people who were inside started running and deputies detained four individuals while the others escaped. The identity of the four individuals has not been revealed.
Additionally, deputies found multiple live roosters inside a mobile home on the property, several deceased roosters in black bags, a cockfighting ring inside the structure, and many items of cockfighting paraphernalia, including metal spurs.
The sheriff's office noted that although the building is officially a barbershop, no hair-cutting supplies were found.
Houston SPCA said one live rooster was found “with a sheathed blade still attached to his left leg,” and twenty-one (21) birds were found deceased. The organization further said that many of the surviving birds “had serious injuries, including partial loss of toes and multiple lacerations on their body.”
Harris County Constable Alan Rosen said SANCHEZ is accused of knowingly renting out the property for a cockfighting ring.
She was charged with misdemeanor cockfighting, punishable by up to only one year in jail. At the time of writing, records show SANCHEZ was released after posting a $100 bond.
As Constable Rosen said: “Cock fighting always has at least two elements – money and death; people bet money and birds fight to the death.”
